A good system for metal and rap.

My car's audio system sucks. I'd like to upgrade the whole thing. Speakers, receiver, throw in an amp, and add subs. I like a lot of bass.

It's a 2000 Nissan Altima. It has 6 spots for 6 1/2" speakers. Here are my questions:

1. What are the best brands to go with?

2. How many speakers, what kind, and what size?

3. How many subs and what size?

4. What's a good wattage for an amp? And how many channels?

I'd like to get the best value. Spend as little as I can while still getting a good system.

Thanks in advance.

i'm not too great with car audio..but most will ask for your budget..people normally get a good set of component speakers for the front and leave the stocks in the rear for some fill..

Speakers, look into Phoenix Gold RSD 6.5" components, well known for one of the best price/quality products. I had 2 8" Digital Designs 1008a's off of roughly 800-1000WRMS, and played both rock (Mudvayne, Hinder, Disturbed, SlipKnot, ect. ect,) and rap (Jeezy, Lil' Wyte, Three 6 Mafia, and a lot of Southern Rap). I liked the way that they played the rock the most, mainly because the box was tuned high so it couldn't provide the output of lower notes that Rap music is known for. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif The 'new' Digital Designs 1508's sound great, but I have no personal experience, just heard them in other systems. They usually go for around $125-$150 each. A single mono class D amp that can deliver 800-1000WRMS @ 2 ohms, would pair up great with these. Everyone will have an opinion on best brands, but you'll never get a solid answer, until you answer that for yourself. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif If you're looking for cheaper subs, look into Hifonics HFi12D4's, they are the lowest line of Hifonics subs, but get surprisingly loud, and you can get the for about $50 each. A good 800WRMS @ 1 ohm and would power those great.

get the best subs you can. If you like rap get bigger subs because when you listen to metal you can just turn the bass down. I am a huge metal fan (atreyu and trivium) and i can tell you from experience the subs dont matter. You should probably get some 10's though. Maybe a alpine type x or something and a hifonics 2500 watt amp will be good for a 1000 dollar setup. You can get brand new hifonics amps and type x's off ebay for pretty cheap!!!! I know cerwin vega and alpine are the cheapest trusted brands out there, so check them out.

i also agree with 95black. Good advice

you really need to stop living and posting please.

bigger the sub, the more spl, smaller subs more sq

there are some 15s that have great spl, such as mach 5 maw 15.

cerwin vega and alpine arent the cheapest retard.

what about hifonics, pioneer????

and type x's need 1500+w to get loud. and alot of power does not equal sound quality.

my suggestion is get 2 dd 1508's and a solid 1000w amp.

hey dumbass, he said he likes rap too. Maybe if he likes rap more he should get bigger subs. If he likes rock more he should get smaller subs.

oh, and did you notice i said that alpine and cv were the cheapest TRUSTED brands out there?

I told you that you wouldn't get a solid answer, so you'd have to answer it yourself. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif **** children...

I'm sure he can tell you any and everything you need to know about your car to get it loud.

we all love bass! But my advice would be don't go over excessive with trying to get the most powerful sub. Your system is only as good as you make it. Get some good components, like the phoenix golds, and go from there. Personally I like 12's, but I have heard 10's and 8's get Hella loud, so don't get turned away by that. But good luck

Does your stock stereo have a CD player or input for a Ipod/etc? If it does then you can leave the stock HU and just add nice speakers and amps. If not then look for a basic model Alpine, but don't spend alot. IMO, you should spend more on your speakers than HU.

I suggest using two amps, a 100 watt x 2 stereo amp to run a set of component 6 1/2 speakers like the PG (mentioned above), Boston Acoustics, Alpine, MB Quarts, CDT, etc.

And a second amp for the sub, at least 400 -600 watts driving a 12" sub in a well made ported box. Lots of threads and stickies in the subwoofer section here on how to build a sub box. It's easy and cheap. Read a few threads on here about brands of sub and amps. Stay away from anything by Pyramid, Pyle, Boss, etc.

You will also need a good amp wiring kit that has heavy guage power wire either 4 or 1 guage, a power fuse, 2 pairs of RCA cables, some speaker wire and dampening material for your doors and other areas that may rattle like your trunk lid.

Read some threads on how to install your front comps and deaden the doors and safely wire power.

The difference between a good sounding system that will last for years and a crappy sounding system that will start giving you problems in the first month is all in how well you do the install.

You should also consider adding a security system to protect your car, loud stereos and subs are a magnet for thieves.

smaller subs do not play rock any better than larger subs. larger subs don't automatically play rap better smaller subs. i actually like 8's. never had a problem getting "low" with 8's.

IMO rock needs a LOT of sub to be impressive for kick drums, that's why I run 2 15's. Also you need solid midbass up front for toms/snares. Never had a problem with them keeping up on crazy fast stuff, so ignore the myths about sub size stated above.

System in my sig was built to play metal and does it quite well, and at insane levels when I'm in the mood. Also does fine on rap when I demo it for somebody. But mine was a fuzz over $1k.

GF's set up was under a G and she also mostly listens to metal. Runs a 15" FI Q off 1k of power and Crystal comps up front/polk coax's in the rear of a 4 channel amp. VERY impressive budget set up. Q is in a ported box and also hits hard on rap.
