A few questions about Alpine stuff!

I have a couple questions.

I was messing around with my Alpine MRD-M501 amp today, and came to the setting "COMP". I looked it up in the manual and it is called Bass Compensation Mode, but it doesn't have a clear description of what it does. I know when I turn it on, the bass gets alot louder, but I dont know if it is just a cover up name for Bass Boost, which from what I have read, you don't want ON. What exactly is it?

And, I'm still confused a little on my Alpine HU. Its a CDA-9825 and has two places where you can adjust the bass. One is by pushing in on the turn knob, slecting "BASS", and then turning the knob inscrease or decrease the level. It goes from 1 to 15. The other is by pressing the "CENTER F" button, selecting bass, and then changing the setting from -7 to +7. In this selection, you can also change the freguency of the bass, 60, 80, etc. What are the differences between the two? Is one alright to have on, and the other not, or are both bad and could lead to possible clipping of the amp?

Nobody knows? I figured with all the people running Alpine HU, somebody would know the answer to my questions.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crying.gif.ec0ebefe590df0251476573bc49e46d8.gif

BUMP!!!!!!!!!

Mines not necessarily about the frequencies, but more about whats the difference between adjusting the bass with the rotary knob (choice from 1-15) and using the "f setup" menu (choice from -7 to +7)?

Hell, I'm just happy somebody responded!//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crazy.gif.c13912c32de98515d3142759a824dae7.gif

well not that this is gonna help but im running the 9830 HU with 2 mrd m-500 amps, i have the comp on the amp turned on, the "mx" (or bass boost) on the HU turned off, bass level set at 6 and low pass filter i think 60hz which in your case it is just an adjustment between -7 to +7 where mine has high and low pass filers

dunno if that helped any but thats what i got going and mine sounds fine

yep just louder, its almost a bass boost, but it didn't add distortion in my system where when i turn the actual bass boost on my HU on all is played is distortion at that point and it gets incredably loud now and still semi clear without the boost.

but in your case try running everything with the comp off, listen to it, if you dont like it turn it on

OK, that question is answered. So, what the difference between setting the bass going through the "f-setup" button and using the push-knob?

what 'f' set up r u talking about?

well on mine, there is a HPF and a LPF i guess instead of setting the bass and treble to -7 - +7, just a better quality way of adjusting it which enables you to cut out freq's not needed, then i also have the bass level push button, i think i got my LPF set at 80hz which is the lowest setting anyway, my HPF set at 120hz, my bass level set at 6 (out of a maximum of 15) and the MX (which is the HU's bass boost) turned off which just adds distortion anyway, and the bass comp on my amp turned on

Ooops! Its the "center f" button. You can hit that, then go to the bass setting, and choose from -7 to +7 and also the LPF (?) frequency. Whats the difference in using that to adjust the bass and using the turn-knob (settings from 1-15)?
