I use 8 gauge speaker wiring. And its not an over kill. These eletrical-buffs contridict them selves continously. Increasing the size does help. Here are the differnces in speakerwires for a setup @2000 watts, 5 feet of wire, with 1 ohm.
16 gauge wire:
1820 watts getting to the subs
amps: 42
Voltage drop: 2.06
14 gauge wire:
1884 watts
amps: 43
Voltage drop: 1.32
12 gauge wire:
1926 Watts
amps: 44
Voltage drop: 0.84
10 gauge wire:
1952 watts
amps: 44
Voltage drop: 0.53
8 gauge wire:
1970.19
amps: 44
Voltage drop: 0.33
...So, the differnce in upgrading from 12 gauge to 8 gauge is youll get 44 watts more of your amp and youll gain over half a volt point. Definetly wont be audible or an EXTREME difference...but it does help to have a higher voltage; and we car audio-enthusiast could all use a little extra help with keeping our voltage high //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
