.5 ohm, yes or no?

Finally will be back at it again with another build. Sold the jeep and bought a civic (this isn't a riced hoopty) and am starting over again.

Anyways, I do believe Im about to order a pair of 12's within the next few weeks but can't decide if I want D2 or D1 coils. The original plan is to run 4-5k, Singer 320A biggest agm I can fit up front(60-70ah more than likely) and two batts (more? *** sag //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif) in the back (100-140ah ea. hopefully). Two runs of 1/0 pos min. maybe neg also. So originally I planned this for 1ohm but now I can't decide if I want to go with that or run .5

I have never ran anything (car home etc) under 1ohm, Would I just be asking for trouble?

Thanks again guys

Looking at mostly the korean boards, crescendo 4.5k, fsd/audio legion, ampere, twisted etc. Also might add that I do not burp, only daily on mostly decaf/slowed/edited music along with normal music(but never as loud lol).

crescendo can do half ohm no problem given your electrical is tip top, me personally I would go with D4s cuz I don't really care to much for half ohm, I don't compete so I wouldn't need that extra power. but you can do whatever pleases you man, d4s or d2s so you can half ohm that **** and really be banging. crescendo has warranty that covers half ohm also I believe

Im at .35(.5) before rise on my fsds and they protect if i hit 13.5 so careful if you choose those and thy get HOT ima install a wall of fans this week to try to keep them cool. If you were going .5 id go crescendo because of their warranty for that. Those amps come alove at .5

If you can't afford 350-400$ to have your 5K amp repaired when it blows up you might want to stick to 1 ohm.

There is nothing about having "good voltage" that makes .5 ohm any easier on the semiconductors in your amp. Heat is quadrupled as you half impedance, efficiency suffers as does SQ. Assuming you're pushing your pair of subs close to their mechanical and thermal limits you will gain little by way of audible output anyway.... even in a perfect world you aren't gaining that much..... two clicks on the volume knob worth of difference if you're incredibly lucky.

Also note that nobody telling you to do this is going to offer to warranty that amp for you if it breaks.

If you must run .5 ohm, buy an amp that is rated/warrantied for that sort of use.

Don't know how to multi quote... (downs sometimes)

I already plan to bypass the eld with a switched resistor.

None of the subs I am looking at come stock with D4's as an option. I was just trying to avoid buying D1's since I'm sure its easier to resell D2's.

I do believe I will be sticking to d1's at 1 ohm final now.

Thank you again gentlemen

Protects at 13.5v at that impedance???? That sucks

I run my amps daily .5ohm no issues... So yes I will tell others it can be done. I wouldn't say do it if I wouldn't do it myself.
Yeah, mine is fine too. Has thermally protected once when I was pounding during the hottest day so far this year (which I know isn't saying a lot). It was 70's outside compared to the usual 40's

Other than that, no issues. Occasionally, I'll check how hot my amp is after playing it for a while. Usually pretty good since I've got it in the bed with tons of air to circulate. If I roll the bed cover back, driving pushes plenty of air past the amp to keep it cool

i also wonder too why people say its worse on an amp to run .5 ohms vs 1 ohm when with box rise the amp doesnt see .5 ohms. Some people say you only gain a little well lets say you have a 6k amp that does 6k at 1 ohm and 3k at 2 ohm. If you wire to 1 ohm and you have 3x box rise you will be at about 3 ohms. If you wire to .5 you will be at about 1.5 assuming its 3x box rise. So thats how people get 5k out of a 5k amp is wiring lower. But for the amp sake why is it bad? The scenario i just posted is what im worried about. Spending alot on a 5k and wiring to 1 ohm and seeing only 3k vs 4500 or more
