4ohm, 2ohm, 1ohm? what

Can someone explain Amps to me. I dont understand when people list their Amps as running on 1ohm. I really dont know what 4ohms means either.

Why would you run an amp at different Ohms? what are the reasons for this?

Another thing I wondered is JL slash amps say they run same wattage from 1.5-4ohms. what exactly does this mean and what are the benefits?

ohms are resistance, say a subwoofer id 4 ohm, then on the amp it would see 4 ohms...

usually amps put out more power the lower the ohm, (hence, least resistance) but the lower you go the more power the amp will draw and sometimes unstable it will become

some amps arnt even rated to do 1 ohm (like some kicker amps) it does not mean they are bad, just they do better at 2 ohms or 4 ohms...

the jl amps do the same wattage between 1.5 - 4 ohms just means that... it does not matter if you do 2 ohms or 4 ohms, it will be the same wattage, while on another amp, if you did 4 ohms instead of 2 , you would get half the amount of power (usually)

so to sum it all up, you want to match your subwoofers to however low your amp can go...

so you would rather buy a 2 ohm sub over the same 4 ohm sub, just so you could put more power to it (if it can handle it of course, and your amp is 2 ohm stable)
