4 Channel Amp Question

Hi

I'm looking at buying a set of Infinty Kappa 6.1 Perfect components for my front, and the Infinity Kappa 3way 6x9 speakers for my rear shelf.

Here's my problem, the two speaker sets have different resistances, similiar RMS requirements. The front components are 4ohm and the 6x9's are two.

The amp I'm looking at says it producdes 111W rms x 4 at 4 ohms with 168W rms at 2 ohms.

Can I run both sets of speakers, 4 ohm and 2 ohm off the same amp? Or should I find speakers with the same resistance

HI! Well first of all I run that same apm for my speakers and from my experience that amp is a beauty. Clean and powerful. Very happy with mine. I personally would keep the ohms at the same level. I thouught all kappa's were 2 ohms. I run them for my front stage. If those perfects are 4 ohms (check to make sure) then, if you like infinity, I would run 6x9 references in the rear. Good speakers for rear fill. Another option if you want to keep those rear kappa's is to run another set of speakers in parallel off of your perfects. That will create a 2 ohm load for your fronts.

Thanks for the reply,

Yeah, all the Kappa multi-element speakers are run at two ohms and the component sets are run at 4 ohms.

Not sure why, I guess just to make things more difficult for me.

My other option was to go with Polk Momo MMC690 6x9's in the back. Those look like very nice speakers too, 4 ohm 100W rms, external crossovers.

I'll probably go with them, I just sorta wanted to the Kappa's to keep everything Infinity. Not a big deal though right?

I want the best 6x9's I can get though because i'm not planning on running a sub, so I want some with good bass responce

I must be going blind, but what amp brand/model are you referring too?

Can you adjust the rms settings on most 4 channel amps? Questing being that I curretly have Kenwood KFC-x680 6x8 145x204 2 WAY 280 WATT Speakers rated at 2-56 rms. Was looking to place a set of components in the front doors "06 Mustang", and been looking at ones rated up and over 100 rms. Does it make sense to put a higher rms speaker up front, and if so can a higher rated amp be staged down to also run the rears at 56-60 rms safely? Or would I adjust the gain to compensate for the lower rms rated speakers in the rear?

Thanks

You definitely want the more powerful speakers in front.

Yes, you can use the gain to adjust front/reat output to your liking. Set the front gain for optimal output, and adjust the rear by lowering it to where it sounds best.

Good to know, then I can go with approx. 100 rms rated components up front, and 56 rms rated rear speakers. Purchase a amp that’s approx 100 rms x 4 at 4 ohm, and just lessen the gain on the amp for the rears to compensate for the lesser rms rating.

Thanks

Yeah, that will be fine as long as your gains are set accordingly. Those polks you were refering to should sound really nice. Good luck //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Since i'm still not 100% sure if I can do what I want to do, i'll use real examples and hopefully someone can tell me with complete certainty that it will work.

Here is the equiptment:

SPECIFICATIONS

CEA-2006 Power Rating

* • CEA-2006 Power Rating (4Ohm@14.4V = 1%THD+N), S/N 73dBA (Ref. 1W into 4Ohm): 125W x 4

RMS Power (at 12V,20Hz-200Hz)

* • Bridged 4 ohms : 300W x 1 (Ch-3/4)

* • Per channel into 2 ohms : 150W x 2 (Ch-3/4)

* • Per channel into 4 ohms : 100W x 4

RMS Power (at 14.4V,20Hz-200Hz)

* • Bridged 4 ohms : 125W x 1 (Ch-3/4), 500W x 1 (Ch-3/4)

Power Handling, Peak: 330 Watts

Sensitivity: 95dB

Frequency Response: 35Hz - 25kHz

Mounting Depth: 3-3/16"

Impedance: 2 Ohms

As you can see, the rear 6x9's are 2 ohms impedence and the front are 4 ohms. Can the amp run these two speaker sets with different impedences together? Will there be any negative side effects? Will it sound great?

Thanks

Yes it can with no problems.
Will there be any negative side effects?
None that I can think of, friend.
Will it sound great?
Thanks
That's a pretty subjective question. What sounds great to you might sound like absolute poo to someone else.
