The blatant abscence of the freedom of speech exhibited by Austria may be a completely foreign concept to us as citizens of a country that does things a bit differently - but that's not to say that it isn't the right thing for them. (Again - I'm not advocating that the decision made by the powers that be in Austria was the correct one - but I'm allowing that a different point of view as the result of very different historical experiences may exist)

Perspective? Maybe.

But I would hope that most free countries throughout the world would atleast acknowledge the right to freedom of speech as a basic rule to true "freedom". That is one of the dominating factors that separate "oppressed" countries from "free" countries...the right to speak our own peice, even if it does not agree with popular opinion or belief. When you begin to limit this right, you begin to not only align yourself closer to the socialist/communist/tyranical systems that you try so hard not to be, but it also opens the gap for further suppression of otherwise "free" rights.
