3 Years For Saying Holocaust Never Happened!?

I can't believe it's actually against the law in Austria to deny the Holocaust.

Guess their freedom of speech rights **** //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

If a huge percentage of our population had been eradicated due to the whims of a madman then likely things would be a bit different here as well.

I understand and deeply value the freedom of speech afforded by the 1st Amendment (though those rights are being trampled fairly often here of late //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif ) but having said that...

Denying that the Holocaust ever happened is inexcusable. And no - I'm not Jewish so that's not where this point of view stems from ~ to me the whole thing is just sickening.

i can see how austria would take it a little more seriously than us
I can see how they would take it seriously.....but to make it a matter of law?

That'd be like US passing a law making it unlawful to state that the 9/11 attacks were anything other than a terrorist attack. Then they could start packing up all of these conspiracy theorists and locking them away......

See my above post.

I'm not advocating denouncement of the Holocaust. Just that I personally think limiting someone's freedom of speech in such a manor is too extreme. That's as Socialist as the forces they were fighting against.

Sortof apples and oranges, Sir Squeak. You couldn't really reasonably make the argument that the Holocaust wasn't the direct result of the Third Reich's version of ethnic cleansing. It happened, the Nazis did it, end of story.

A person could reasonably make the argument that the attack on the Twin Towers was motivated by other than what most people assume it to have been....

Indeed.

Like my HS Social Studies teacher used to say, I may not agree with what your saying... but I'll sure as hell support your freedom to say it!

By the same token....many people do try to advocate and do believe that the Holocaust was a haox, was exaggerated in scope, was not as severe as portrayed, etc etc. Hundreds of books have been published on the issue.

I'm not taking sides, and I'm not saying this guy is right. But yes, they are essentially the same thing. Maybe not to the same degree in severity as far as loss of life and such is concerned. But the same issues do arise as far as people's beliefs into the published/official truthfulness of both events. And I personally don't feel that they should be limited to the government's version of the "truth".
