Ok so this is what i am running zapco 9.0 4 ohm version on 3 jbl wgti 12 subs.

Now which should i do since i am doing a sq system it should be sealed but i love loud *** systems also so would a sealed 2200 rms system be close to as loud as a ported one would be or would the ported be so much louder? this is just for street bad no competition use just for my ears and me but i like to play lots or rap songs with bass like lil john and rock/metal so what should i do sealed or ported. I just really want to know how much lower is it going to be is i go sealed vs ported really cause if ported is alot louder then i might do that but also what freq. should it be at if i was doing ported?

Three 12in wgti's on that amp are going to be pretty ridiculous regardless of which box style you choose.... theres trade-offs... like the sealed will take up less room, will have better low-end extension, and will probably sound more accurate. It will also be a lot more forgiving if you stray a bit from the recommended sizes.

Ported will be obviously louder, more efficient, and depending on which tune you decide, might give a lot more output in the sweet spot you want for the type of music you listen to. Tune is someone of a personal taste.

Generally, people who want more of a SQ tune aim for the 28-33hz area. People wanting something loud but reasonable go for 35-45hz. At this point the bass will be pretty **** loud but can get boomy and/or sloppy (and you lose any bass that plays below port tune). If you're not competing, you don't want to tune any higher than this.

The best thing to do if you're not sure is to follow JBL's enclosure recommendations exactly because this is what they advise based on the sub's thiele/small parameters (hopefully). If you want to go further you can take the T/S Specs and enter them into a box building a program and see what that tells you.

Good luck!

if your doing a SQ system for in the complete wrong direction with 3 12's..go ported and tune to like 33 hz or so..im sure you'll have enough bass to satisfy your need to be loud...dunno how the sq on it will be though, im sure you won't notice unless you heard a SQ system before

What the tune *basically* does is creates a peak slightly above that frequency. Ex

Unless you find someone that is ACTUALLY knowledgeable in box design I would say stick to a sealed setup it might save you some time/money and should still wang really hard. Personally if I had that equipment I couldn't see myself wanting more output past a sealed setup.

What kind of car is this going in btw?

2003 toyota echo with the whole car sound deadened with dyna asorbs for sub box and speakers, extreme dynamat 3 bulk packs with extereme liner and dynapad. Running zapco 9.0 on subs zapco 4.0 on speakers running 2 way front active with rear fill off hu and dsp6 for processor should sound great i was running the same setup on the dc reference for speakers but now i want better sq so yea... hu is kenwood kvt-719 using syblink with slb-u to get full 16 volts preamp output voltage for clean signal

Wow I should have asked that to begin with. Tiny car + beefy subs = loud bass. Don't bother with ported and go sealed (I'm wondering if you even have enough space for an ideal sized ported box for all three of those subs). Three 12's is already total overkill if you want a SQ-ish system, even if they are sealed.

LOL i just like really loud bass i am not competing i am just make a sq system to my specification not for any one else standards. The cool ness is i got a kinetik 2400 in my battery tray with a minor modification and i am putting another one in my trunk so i will do 3 12's then and do the subs inverted and a amp rack so it will be bad *** i cant wait till my install gets finished. only think left i will have to to will be to upgrade alternator to h/o 170amp vs stock 70 amp i hope to see a big improvment. The question is do using dynamat products really make my music louder and kill rattles or just stop rattling?

Also how good are these jbl w12gti mkll subs? they say 700 rms 4000 peak so can they really handle more than 700 rms?? not like its going to matter any how since i will be needing 3 to run a 4 ohm load. How loud will 3 12's make be in a small car?
