3 10s oppose to 2 12s

I have 2 12" cvr's in my ranger xlt powered by a jl 1800g amp. they are nice and loud but I want something better suited for metal type faster music. I want to stay the same spl wise but also increase sq, so I was looking at 3 10"s instead. thoughts? I really want 3 W3s. price range is about 400-500.

If you really want the bass to kick fast and hard on metal your safest bet is to use a sealed box. Do you have your CVRs in a sealed box? You very well might like the W3s more, but it's a lot of money to spend when you might be able to get your current equipment sounding better with a little tuning or maybe building a new box.

with sealed it'll hit more accurate but i'm not so sure about it hitting harder though.

might be how your box is designed, is it custom or prefab?

size of the speaker doesn't affect the "sq" of the speaker. It's like beating a horse to death when people ask questions like these.

An 8" speaker will have no more or no less "sq" than a 21" speaker

If you want to stay around the same for loudness but increase your transient response and have a flatter freq. response. The best you can do is a passive radiator set up.

Or get 2 15s or 18s in a sealed.

But if i were you. I'd keep the 2 12s (as they will about equal to that of 3 10s and you don't have to go through the troubles of selling and changing everything) and just build a passive radiator enclosure.
