2ohm vs. 4ohm

My car speakers are all 2ohm, and im looking to add a subwoofer. Does the subwoofer have to be 2ohm too, or can it be 4ohm? When hooking up the amp, does it have to be set to 2ohm also? Im so confused about all this electrical stuff, and dont want to blow the subs. Im thinking about the alpine SWR-1222D.

the subwoofer can be either, just make sure its wired so that the amp is putting out its full power. The type R is a nice sub, theres a whole thread on it here.
