2nd batt questions

I had two amps hooked to just a stock battery, A kenwood excelon and a hifonics 1606 brutus....not too sure on what the amps are on my stock alt but i'm sure not good at all because with both of those amps on my lights dimmed horribly and after running several minutes bass went noticabley down....now would this be fixed if i put a second battery in the back...is that the only thing i need or ...would i also need a cap???....or a new alternator...

then after that getting a new batt would also help, maybe a optima yellowtop

i had horrible drops even at 3k rpms on a 130a alt and when i added my g31 YT in the trunk they disappeared. maybe this will work for you

A good High output alternator is the best way to go, I know Excessive Amperage is doing a group buy right now.

Like they said, a high output alt and the Yellow Top are your best options. And you should also try doing the big 3 upgrade too.

Try the BIG3 upgrade first, since that will be your cheapest upgrade. Then I would install a good cap., at least 1f.

make sure your gains are set correctly first. If your gains are set wrong you could be taxing the electrical system for no reason as well as putting your amps at risk. If your lights are dimming that bad, a 2nd alt seems like it will be needed eventually, but the Big 3 should show some improvement. A 2nd batt will help, but without a strong alt to back it up, you're only prolonging an inevitable blown alt.

What's with people and this way of thinking that caps are something great and a cure for every electrical problem? Caps offer very little help to any system with bass. If you have your big 3 done and a good deep cycle battery like an Optima, Odyssey, Kinetik then a cap will be completely useless. The only people I see using caps are SQ guys and they use them on their front stage amps to help regulate the voltage, not on their sub amps. A deep cycle battery will offer more of a charge to your amps when they need it than any capacitor ever could. I tried using a 1 farad cap a couple years ago and tested my system with it and without it and there was a noticeable increase in power when I ripped it out. Not to mention my subs were hitting higher db's without it.

The big 3 is the 3 main power wires. When you do the Big 3 you need to upgrade the Alt to battery (+), the battery (-) to frame and the Engine block to frame/body. You don't remove any of the factory wires, you just add on to them with a larger gauge wire, preferably 0 gauge.
