I think for a SQ setup, one Matrix Elite 10 will provide better sound using much less space than the Tempest... It will cost around the same, and also get wicked loud with 380w. Just a free suggestion ;D
Just because he has room available, doesn't mean he has to use it. If a 10" woofer will have similar output and SQ, yet take up less space, i don't know why you wouldn't choose it. (Not to mention he would have many more amp choices with the Ohm configs)Hes got an escalade with loads of room in the back. I don't see where space would be a concern. Plus, tempests put out some serious lows. You gotta love that.
I've never heard those complainet, but what I HAVE heard, (apparantly unlike you) is plenty of CDT speakers. They are winners, its most likely people underpowering them and clipping the amp than the speakers themselves.I would recommend Squeak’s setup. I’ve simply heard far too many complaints about the CDT speakers distorting at moderate to high volume to trust them, even in this price range.
BINGO! people sending them less than 80 watts rms, cranking the gains and the volume. Or people being just plain dumb and running off a HU. Great componentsm ONE of the best in it's price range! peaceits most likely people underpowering them and clipping the amp than the speakers themselves.
You’re hardly the only one who has experience with these speakers, and many others make the opposite review. Perhaps you have not noticed because you have not been looking.I've never heard those complainet, but what I HAVE heard, (apparantly unlike you) is plenty of CDT speakers. http://forums.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=72392Ok this is a little late but its been about 2 months that ive had them in so i feel i can review them safely. I have these speakers runnin off my alpine in my sig. its 80x2 @ 4 ohms.
the sound quality when the speakers are turned up about half way 20/35 on the alpine is nice. very clear and just a good overall sound. i like it. the problem comes when they get more power fed to them. at about 26/35 they start to sound bad. the vocals just sound nasty. they make your mouth twist in weird directions and your eyebrows just raise in disgust. now i know what some people are thinking, most HU distort when you get to the higher voume levels so you should have your gain set right so that you wont have to turn it up so high to actually get into the distortion. well for the 20 and 26 out of 35 for the volume, the gain was set to almost minimum on the alpine. when i turn the gain to where it should be the speakers distort at about 15/35. they sound real bad and they are not even gettin their rms wattage. i checked phasing, wire connections, cross over points, and all that good stuff. even with the HPF set at 160 hz the speakers distort. i really dont believe these speakers are worth the 300 dollar msrp. imo skip these speakers and go with something else. im gonna go with the RE components and ill try and review them compared to these cdts.
http://www.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?p=453013#post453013I have CDT CL-61's, I have yet to hear any other comp set. I personally believe the CDT's are a great buy, if you don't plan on giving them anything below 150hz. They distort really, really fast when you start throwing lows at them. Make sure you do a good install.

http://www.caraudio.com/vb/showthread.php?t=69671i have htese speakers and they sound pretty good for the price, and they get loud, but on certain songs if i turn the volume over 30/62 my tweets start to distort, but on other songs i can turn it all the way up to 40, i havent really gone over 40 cause thats pretty loud for me.
