$25 to the person who can design the best system for under $500.

Typo. To be 2ohm mono (bridged) stable, it'd have to be 1ohm stereo stable.....and it's not.
Then the typo must have been on the Clarion main page, whenever that was written, because every site I've seen uses the same list of specs.

well hell now that i think about it i did this for my friend a few weeks ago

2 12 alpine Type S

memphis PR500.1d

an sealed box

and wiring

All came to $500.00

retail mind u.

Must have been then //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Think about it....most places just copy-n-paste from the homepage. So if there is a typo, everyone else will have it also.

But it is 380w @ 4ohm.

Then I repeal my Hifonics recommendation.

Ok, well...
Front component speakers: ~$135

CDT cl-61's from djdilliodon. He is an authorized CDT dealer, i have bought from him...great guy. His aim name is: djdilliodon

Some people say CDT is big here, which it is...honestly b/c it's good. I have not found a component set that can beat it for less money! I've owned CDT, diamond audio, and alpine component sets...and i've come back to CDT!

Component amplifier: ~$65

http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/1013

Profile offers the best mix of quality and price, one of the best you can go with in your budget. I've previously owned two clarus amplifiers, and my friend owns one, and i have one in my girl's car right now! Absolutely no problems at all with the clarus line, great for the price.

Subwoofer: Resonant Engineering SE series OR Incriminator Audio Lethal Injection; 12"

http://www.reaudio.com

http://www.incriminatoraudio.com

or

2 12" IA 187 series...2 12" RE re series

Less than $190 no matter which you go with...as low as ~$170

-For both companies, call for direct pricing!

Both are great woofers. Do a search here and you will find tons of info from people who have bought them! I have 4 8" re series in my girl's car, i have heard the LI series as well as the SE series. All are great, depends on if you would like one or two woofers.

Subwoofer amplifier: Profile cl800 ~$120

Again, good amplifier in your price range.

http://ikesound.com/product-product_id/1018

Depending on which subwoofer(s) you go with...it may be $510, all of it is shipped prices as well! (Could be $500 b/c shipping may be less where you are!) This setup use the stock CD player since you hve a 6-disc CD changer as well! It replaces the front speakers with quality component speakers, powered by an amplifier giving you MUCH better sound. You can decide to leave the stock rear speakers in for a little rear fill. I gave you a few choices on subwoofers...any choice would be great, they'll offer a gret balance of quality sound and still give you some loudness. My choice would be the LI 12".

As far as installation! You said it didn't need to be included, but i'll go ahead and give you some info on what you'll need.

Line Output converters: Two @ $18...converts your stock level outputs to RCA's.

Four guage, multi-channel Amplifier wiring kit: $36

http://www.knukonceptz.com, great place! I've ordered from them as well.

http://knukonceptz.com/productDetail.cfm?prodID=KOLAK44

Ported enclosure: A ported enclosure tuned low will give you the best rounded sound.

For 1 12", 2-3 cubes ported @ 30hz

For 2 12", 3-4 cubes ported @ 30hz

DO NOT buy a pre-fab box, check out gnomeaudio.com if you don't want to build yourself. BUT, i highly encourage you to build yourself...not hard, and much cheaper. We can walk you through it, i learned how to from here also. I can even design and layout a box plan for you if you need! Buy a box: $100-200, build a box: Less than $30 in materials

With items listed above, You can install yourself! Do it, it's easy...we can walk you through it, and you can ask questions here!

Well, there is my proposal! Great, well rounded sound that fits within your budget! You WILL be happy with the sound...it'll amaze you for how much you paid...no shop could match it! Good luck, feel free to stick around here and learn! peace

NG
I'm gonna have to go with ngsm13 on this one, squeak also had a good choices, but from my personal experience...ng edged out on this one. I can testify to most of the stuff on that list! Good setup, a lot of good info. peace

Squeak9798, nice amp, to bad the one i have is cheaper and produces more watts.

400W @ 4 would do it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif ;)

After reading the entire thread, i'd agree mostly with ngsm13. That layout hase everything needed, along with all the information. The setup would be amazing, as well as the sound quality and output. Close second, my vote is squeak. He found a great LOC, i'll probably bookmark that one. later.

Here is my take:

Components - CDT CL-61:

Really can't beat CDT when you buy authorized from djdilliondon or tplaya07. Their bottom of the line, but its such a deal for what you get from markdown ($300 retail).

Component Amp - Orion 3002

Orion made (Extreme) and still makes (3002) a VERY good product. As in - top of the mainstream companies good.

Subwoofer - eDesign 13Kv2

I would rather go with one good 12" instead of a couple 'worse' 12". Search on the boards, and there are a number of threads on comparing a couple cheaper subs to one good one, and the single good one almost (cause I haven't read all of them...) wins. Hell, you could even go up to one 15Kv2 if you think you want more output. There are a bunch of eD haters on here, but see past that and realize that they make a nice product.

Amplifier - eD nine.2

Nothing beats a combo deal from a manufacturer when they just release a product. Lots of very good comments made about this amp.

Components: $135

Comp Amp: $89 (refurb Orion, still good)

Sub/Amp combo: $250 (same price for the 12 or the 15)

Total: $474

that leaves you enough money to pay for shipping for the comp amp (everything else has free shipping:

Links:

CDT - PM djdilliodon, its been listed before

Orion - http://www.ikesound.com/product-product_id/2166

eDesign - http://www.edesignaudio.com/combo.htm (you want combo #1)

I would second the suggestion for the tempest. I would also second the suggestion of the profile clarus amps. When the tempests were on sale, my friend got a tempest and a profile cl600 (105 shipped at thezeb pricematching ikesound) for about 230. Box materials brought it up to 250. That leaves you with 250 to spend on comps, HU , and wire (wal mart wire is cheap). And all of this is authorized with warranties. Adire may be having another sale before the holidays like last year when the tempests were $125
