Featured 2010 ford ranger, which door speakers???

Nothing better than when you do something like this and see the smile it brings to a kids face!

That is awesome.
I agree. When I finished the system in my son's truck, the shocked look on his face when he heard how loud a single 12 can be was worth all the week it took to install it. All his other bodies have multiple subs, but my son's is much louder. He is so proud of it. I have to admit that I am also very proud of it. I got to show off my skills and show everyone how a true pro does it. LOL.... :ROFLMAO:

My daughter's convertible Mustang is next. I already have all the equipment, and the alarm is installed, which I did a couple weeks ago. Now I just need the time to install the audio.

Looking for some insight & experiences on stuffing the box with some poly fill, fiberglass insulation, etc...
Sure many of you guys have played with it & trying to take the experimentation out of the equation.

Using the recoil red1800 amp we discussed.
So 900 watts to the 2 hertz mps 250 10” subs. Tight base coming out of this set up isn’t anything crazy amazing but it is what it is.
I am wanting to maybe add some poly fill and get some deeper base improvement as appears the deep low stuff is what my son really enjoys.
Going to give you some box dimensions and maybe you can tell me if poly fill will help and maybe how much do you suggest me adding?
Box is wedge style sealed
51 inches wide overall
16" tall
7 inch depth at the bottom
3 inch depth at the top
21 inches wide before the small restriction in the center to accommodate the armrest which the restriction is probably 6 inches wide
Including a picture

I don’t have any experience with how much poly fill
Have you used filled with great success in a positive direction?
What do you think of more the solid egg crate foam stuff?
Box is somewhat tall & dont want to spray glue it in...
So if the foam isnt a good idea ill use the sheet style filler so its not just balls of loose cotton.
Not wanting to spray glue in place or atleast minimal.

No idea if the box is ideal airspace for those speakers, or if he just slammed something together

One thing I’m not happy about is the MDF is only 5/8 thick but not much room behind the seat and didn’t want to see cramped all the way forward but we didn’t even discuss it, I figured it would’ve been 3/4
Also thinking the sheet style fill like fiberglass or similar?
Included a pic of some cheap sheet style poly fill "quilt batting" from Walmart, but im open to spending more for better results...
Not wanting to spray glue it into the box or very minimal, maybe top edges.
Figured if it was sheet style, would just stay in place, on the back wall & not drop down.

Anyways, thoughts, suggestions, experiences??

how much fill?

From the IM I sent you:

As for stuffing a sealed cab, I use Acousta-stuf because nobody to date, nada have been able to confirm that regular old poly-fill is the same product, I don't think it is. I've tried to find the definitive answer, for years and it isn't out there that I can find and there is a difference in the fiber and how it's cut, made, and that may make the difference.

Granted, $30 versus $5.95 is a bit of a dif, but not really in the scheme of things.

The generally accepted rule is 1lb of long haired wool (very $$) or Acousta-stuf per 1 cu ft. of airspace. Only recently have they done any real test to see why some think stuffed sound better as it was generally accepted that the only scientific reasons is that it tricks the woofer into thinking it is a bigger box than it really is. They now know that it also reduces intermodular hormonic distortion within the box too. Therefore, I would expect that it sounds better, but that doesn't necessarily translate to a lot lower frequency output, if any that you can really notice anyway,

I've often stated that I always stuff my sealed enclosures with long haired wool or Acousta-stuf, it just sounds better - for whatever reason, it's not simply imagined.

Think the door utilize a 6x8 stock speaker.
so can do 6.5", 7.0", 6x9", etc....

Thanks
Ford, Mercury, and Lincoln use 6x8's.

You can use a 6.5" adapter or make a 5.25" mid & tweeter component plate. I had Blaupunkt 5.25" component plates on the deck of 1983 Mercury Grand Marquis LS in 1995-2003. I won the Blaupunkts in a pizza eating contest at a car audio event.

Here are 6.5" adapters in a 2010 Grand Marquis and 2011 Ford Crown Vic.

I'm currently installing a system in the MGM.

Put in 2lbs of a Acousta-Stuf poly fill be Dox recommendation, JR & I are mind-blown, sounds like a completely different system.........
ordered another 1lb for my jl 12 tw3 in my tacoma.....

I thought blown ears was the objective, no?

That is cool, always fun when something simple like that makes an improvement!
I know its case by case situation "box config" but have seen a few videos stating they didnt notice a difference by stuffing....
In this situation, it was a huge / drastic improvement, nothing subtle....

I try not to oversell it, case by case results vary and they are usually subtle, but the one thing I am certain of, it always seems to improve the quality of the sound, regardless.

I've never used anything except for the Acousta-stuf or Australian long haired wool, other things might work well but I just figure,, if it ain't broke. don't fix it!

Whenever someone brought me a prefab box, I would always ask them what type of sound they wanted. If they wanted a deeper sound, I would fill it. If they wanted a harder hit, I would leave the fill out. Even with Loaded JL Audio boxes. The sealed ones come with polyfill, so I would take it out of people wanted a harder hit. So yes, poly fill makes a big difference.

I think he & I both prefer the deeper stuff....
I never thought this set-up really even hit very hard though either, strange to say but I think it improved all aspects...
I can definitely feel it more in my back than prior....
This wasnt a prefab...
Kind of bummed with the outcome of the box, but it is what it is. Didnt cost me any more than buying a prefab.
The back wall of the ranger has a 1/2 - 1" inset so the builder used 2 separate sheets offset to mirror the back wall...
He also built the box out of 5/8 MDF instead of 3/4", so the seat wasnt crammed all the way forward....
Needless to say we blew the back of the box apart......

When he repaired it he installed some large pieces of 3/4" bracing on the inside of the rear wall of the box, taking up volume is my concern....
I never played it after the repair without the poly fill,
Once I got the box back I waited for the poly fill to come-in before reinstalling the box,

Regardless if the volume is less now, sounds great with the fill...

My son is finding out the drawbacks of having a hard hitting sub in truck. Every weekend he's out tracking down a new rattle. So far, he had to rattle proof the door panels, tighten the rear window (yes, the rear window came loose), and tighten dome light. He has an NVX VCW12v2 in a ported box.
