2002 Jaguar S type install - could use suggestions

Hi guys. I have a 2002 Jaguar s type that I'd like to add an ipod and a sub to. I"m only going to be driving this car for about a year or else I'd install a real system in it.

First, the ipod. I tried the pac auxbox and ford cable. It didn't work. I took it to pac and they verified the box and harness were okay and the tech even installed it in my car. It was a no go.

So, at this point, I'm thinking of having the ipod hookup hardwired into the antenna input. Is this a good way to do this?

Now to the sub...

I"m probably going to just use a speaker level input device to come up with my rca inputs for the amp. I'm thinking of the eD nine.1. It's way more power then I'll ever need and at $200, it's cheap.

The trunk on this thing sucks. I have 28" wide by about 16" deep by about 12.25" tall to work with. There is a tray that holds the amp(I think it's the factory amp) and rear speakers. The tray eats up a ton of trunk space. Without it, I have over 15" of clearance.

I took the tray out today and there is a ton more clearance for the sub box if it's out, but then I would have to fiigure out what to do with the stock rear speakers. I could go ghetto and mount some satellite speakers in the corners between the pillar and the headrests. The windows are blacked out and the interior is black so it wouldn't be as noticable as it would sound. This would open up the stock 6X8 speaker ports for the trunk to "breathe" with the sub in there. However, the stock system performance isn't too bad, so I wouldn't mind leaving them and getting a box design that works with the setup.

I"m thinking of using the elemental designs e5.12 sub. I think this is about all the sub I can fit back there, although if I take the tray out, I can fit a 13av2. With the tray in there, I may even have trouble fitting the e5.12 sub back there considering the mounting depth of about 6.625". I need to leave some room behind the magnet for the speaker to breathe and the excursion capability would require me to leave some room in front of the speaker. I was thinking of doing a 1.5 cu ft ported box. I think the port area on this is another 775 cu in3, so that would be another .4 cu ft or so.

What have you guys done with these low profile trunks? Should I leave the rear tray or go ghetto?

my suggestion... take everything out and go budget system, decent headunit with ipod capability, pioneer 3000 or 4000 series... or clarion, cheap 4 channel amp, phoenix gold rsd components with a single 12 bridged off the back 2 channels, if you install everything yourself figure 100 for the headunit, 60 for the speakers, 120 for the amp (audiopipe) and 100 for the sub plus 50 worth of install stuff, 420 for a complete system...

True... it can be done cheap. I'm thinking of buying a nice amp and a nice sub because those will carry over to my next car in a year. I'm definately thinking of ditching the stupid head unit after all the ipod drama. I've already wasted $110 with no results!
