2001 Grand AM Build

the whine is probably from your rcas or outputs... do you have the RCAS ran on the seperate side of the car than the power wire is ran? even rem wire can cause it..
RCA's for both amps are ran driver side, the only other thing that is ran on that side is the speaker wire for the driver side door speakers.

The 2 runs of power wire, (2ga & 4ga) are ran on the passenger side along with the rem.

I sanded down the chassis and that bracket and got a good solid ground, and it's still doing it. I think im going to try one of those rca noise filters next, maybe that will work?

More pics will be up from todays work soon, they're uploading.

Did a little tidying today, along with sanding down the frame to make a solid ground. Still getting the speaker whine though, so i guess a RCA noise filter is next.

Cleaned up the connections a little

Grounds, maybe i'm doing it wrong?

Grounds are right..what exactly is the noise? How loud and such is it..and what's your plans with the cardboard
The noise comes from mostly the tweets i think, when i turn the radio on (car off, or on doesnt make a difference) it sounds like your tuning an old dial radio, like you're trying to find the right frequency. And it just keeps doing it, when the music plays you can't hear it, but any soft spots in the music or when changing songs you can still hear it. not extremely loud, but you can hear it if you're not looking for it

The cardboard is just like a floor plan so i can get the right cuts when I do the plywood tomorrow. The plywood will be carpeted with cutout's above both amps and the x-overs with plexi glass on the bottom side so you can see the amps and x-overs, but all the wiring will be hidden. Just like a false floor.

As for your power wire..your best bet would have been to just run 1/0..then ran itto a distro... Would look cleaner
Yeah i wish i would have waited longer to buy the wire, i got that 2ga for $2/ft and i could have picked up some 1/0 for that. But too late now. =[

So it's from your highs..not the subs? I had a problem with mine.. It turned out that my RCA cables were touching against stuff behind the hu like metals and the other rcas(they are the ones connected to wires in back of the hu..not built in) and it caused noises.. It could also be the crossover if it's only the tweeters..try connecting them without the crossovers by them selves and see if it does it.. Does it sound fuzzy only when music isn't playing?

Yes it's from the highs. It could very likely be that stupid bracket behind the HU, i got these RCA elbows from radioshack and they could be touching, their metal so, highly likely. I'll try that tomorrow.

it's probably not the x-overs because when the sub amp is disconnected, the noise does not occur. It doesn't sound fuzzy it sounds like a frequency change, it's hard to describe.

Well if it doesn't do it when the sub amp is disconnected then well..there's your problem
Lol yeah, i just don't know what about the sub amp would be causing that kind of problem. I'm thinking it's some kind of feedback from the sub amp going through the RCA's back to the head unit.

might be touching eachother behind the HU.. are your grounds on the same spot? might have to try finding a new grounding area.. i know another one

try some ground loop isolators on the rcas. fixed my wining noise i was gettin =P
that just masks the problem.. doesnt solve it

Yeah most likely they're touching behind the HU

The grounds were separated and it wasn't any different. Where is the other one?

well, dunno how easy it will be to explain.. unless youve had to remove the full back seat for some reason (my box is so big in order for me to put it in/take it out i have to remove the full back seat) remove the bottom part of the back seat, and where the rear seat belts hang down theres a removable cushion, with a bolt on the bottom that you remove in order to take it off, right there would be a good ground

sorry, shit job explaining, maybe if i get time tomorrow ill post a pic
