2 way alarm w/o remote start

Ok im looking to get an alarm installed in my 2001 Sierra, and i dont need remote start. I want something feature packed with 2 way paging. Im currently looking at the Viper 5000 a local shop said $400 installed. is that a good price? I can also get a autopage 2-way for a little less any suggestions. I need some reccomendations as to whats good and cheap. Most shops ive talked to said a battery back up is worthless. I dont understand.
