2 FI BL's need more... not sure whats next... Comment

if you don't have any more space 4-12's would be my suggestion. Just get some efficient ones. q's or arsenals come to mind.

And i don't know why someone would suggest 2 q's if you want more output, because chances are you wouldn't get any.

the more i think about it with hunting season right around the corner i just dont think i could do a sup up box... At this point im going to wait till i see some specs on what the new aa's like space wise and probably go from there.... assassins or arsenals are looking good price wise... anyone seen any specs yet on what kind of space they are wanting ? i havent seen any posted anywhere...

i can plug the theile/small parameters into bbp when i get home for the assasins. I would imagine they kept them fairly reasonable in the requirements.

If subs back port back works in your whip then keep it. Especially if its the practical thing to do.

I would imagine they would do fine in 7-8 cubes tho.

ok, i thought you meant that you werent dropping anything, but if you are dropping a good bit it means that amp is eating up its supply just fine //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

also i wouldnt be so quick to dismiss the Q's as a way to get more output. i have no experience with them so take this with a grain of salt. but going from research on the Fi line, and especially 1meangta thread on his 2 15" bl's

he said that with his q's and his bl's off the same ammount of wattage (roughly 1200) the q's were louder. he also said that once he upped his power to roughly 1600-1800 on the BL's, thats when they took the cake for output.

the only thing i can think of is your limited on power. i mean the 20.1 are known to do roughly 2400+ @ 1 ohm. but of course running it at .25 means your dropping efficiency fast as hell, but not gaining power in an equal amount. ive asked people about the 20.1's @ and under .5 ohms and they all said they become very inefficient and don't gain very much power. so its my guess that the BL's are simply underpowered.

only thing i can think of is upping the box size to try and squeeze out a little more efficient use of power for the bl's. 3.4 cubes is sitting on the lower side of box recommendations based on Fi's information. i would say sit them in maybe 4-4.2 cubes each.

but like i said i dont have experience with the Fi line yet. only the sx's from RE a couple years back.

Get Qs. They will use the power to their advantage more than the BLs. BLs have a super stiff suspension and dont start moving until they see about 1500 watts.

yeah..but looking @ the specs on his amp (American Bass 200.1) doesnt look right.. in power ratings.UsaCi ratings at 14.4V : 598.9 watts at 4 ohms...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

1meangta im assuming? what are UsaCi ratings?

jmacs comment got me thinking.

to the OP, just an FYI, i posted up a picture of a song analysis for young jeezy-hypnotize. the bass notes topped out at -6.98db or so. and this is pretty much the trend for most rap. dbfan187 is another guy that uses -10db tones to set gains with.

so if your gains are set using -3db your really not maxing out your amplifier.

I originally tried to set the gain with a -6db tone but to be honest there wasnt a giant diff in the output... i went to -3 just to be on the safe side since i am running the amp at .25 ohms... At this point i think i might be facing a couple options like

a. trying some q's out just to get into the sweet spot power wise...

b. maybe selling the 20.1 and trying a new amp...(love this amp tho and i would love to run it around .5 ohms so now i wish i had gone with a diff vc option...

c. build a bit bigger box (cheapest)

d. Look into 4 assassins or arsenals when i find out what size box they would by happy in. with assassins sell of the 20.1 and get something that would match up a bit better or arsenals keepthe 20.1 as at .5 ohms i would think they would love life on the 20.1

that would be awesome i would greatly appreciate that... And everyone else too i really appreciate all the input and comments as it always helps to have several minds working on a solution.

of course i may of just been expecting too much out of the setup...

i was under the impression that the ia did around 3k at .5

which from my experience would be the usable power limit for a pair of q's... anymore and your just wasting your time. I've ran around 3k to my q(hk4000 set to 3600 on a 0db tone) and thermally it was fine but most of the power was lost to power compression. edit: At .5 1600 or so is there thermal limit tho... due to current increase

Giving the -6db tone a try couldn't hurt. i always use 0 db just for headroom tho...

if you did four assassins then 7 cubes @ 31 hz with 100 inches of port with the ia at one ohm should work well. Scott seemed to talk like he's really underrating his drivers more and more. Soo they may take double rms they may not. Although he's talking like d4 might be the only option for the assassins so 1 ohm might be out of the question for four.

Personally i'd wait and see what the specs on the arsenals look like. Maybe run four of those off the ia at .5.
