Total noob here wondering what you guy's mean when you talk about tuning subs to certain frequencies. Is that something you adjust on your amp? just trying to learn here.

It's the enclosure that is tuned to a certain frequency (not sealed enclosures though). This is done by adjusting the enclosure volume, port area, and port length. The different tuning frequencies give you a different frequency response from the sub. The frequencies near the tuning frequencies will be boosted and you will get more output around there.

When a speaker is in a ported enclosure both the volume of the enclosure and port determine the tuning of the enclosure.
