2 18" in an explorer sport

ok heres what im working with

depth: from box against amps to the rear hatch is 30". so i would say if i gave the box 6" from the rear hatch for breathing room i have a total of 24" to play with.

height: sitting 4" above the headrests, i have 25" of room. which leaves me 12" to the roof

width:INSIDE the wheel well i have 41.5" to work with, and ABOVE the wheel well i have 52.5" to play with. i would PREFER to not have to make a little notch to sit the box on the wheel wells but will if i have to i will.

so i have 12.23 cubes using 22.5 x 23.5 x 40 (24" x 25" x 41.5")

and 13.32 cubes using 24.5 x 23.5 x 40 (26" x 25" x 41.5")

edit: looks like i may need to build that notch after all.

How big are you trying to get and how much port?
hoping to get 12 cubes with 180^2" of port. doubt its gonna happen WITHOUT going above the wheel wells. all the other times ive calculated boxes ive lost a 1^3'+ of space for the port. and those were with much smaller ports. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

edit: actually hoping to go bigger than 12 cubes. thats just the minimum

What kinda amps will you be running again? Cause ive heard of some peeps raising the back seats so that they can mount the amp under neath them. IDK if you always have people sittin in the back, but if your tryin to get the biggest box that you can those 2 or 3 inches your amps would take up could help.

i know what your saying. the back seats sit at an angle kinda. so that amps are sitting on the lower part of the seat. i would gain only about 1" or so by moving the amps (which i plan to do anyways). but yea, thanks for reminding me.

on another note, my friends 4 door explorer, has rear seats that sit almost vertical //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/blackeye.gif.66a1670f5aaf7f406e783a63e3387dc5.gif

amp is a kx2500.1 (birthsheet says 2960@ 2 ohms)

if i get 2 15"s im gonna regret it in a month and wished i had done the 2 18's

btw as you can see...amp and sub are sold...which means im buying the subs soon //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

i calculated about 15 cubes if i build a part of the box between the wheel wells, and then another part of the box wider above the wheel wells. so i think im in luck. this is also assuming i have the box about 6" from the rear hatch.

whats the closest i can get to the rear hatch without having it act as part of my port?

heres what im talking about with the notch thing. this is 2 18" q's in an explorer sport that derrick linked me to.
