the RD audio stuff IS BUILT by SJA industries... they ashare some parts with atomic besides that they totally different monsters... the alpha is nothing like the ELE or apx it has a higher Q and lower fs with more xmax for a daily driving woofer and bassrace... the coils are different/spyders and the cones have been upgraded(which they share) besides it being similar parts steve designed his own woofers and they are solid...wait are you talking about the alphasonics,or infinity alpha's,or rd audio alpha's
yep, and the only woofer atomic has that sounds as good is the Manhattan.which is a great lil woofer... the alpha IMO is one of the TOP subs on the market regardless of price.. i was only doing 149 with the 4 15s and 2 of the 1750s but they where pretty flat down to 30hz and sound better than 99% of the high output woofers on the market..all that matters is you like the way they sound to you.
If any of this has been covered then sorry I didn't wanna read all the way through. First off 10 cubes wouldn't at all be for competition. Competition boxes are generally a lot smaller then a daily box tuned higher with gobs of power. You want everything to peak very loud at a higher frequency.......... But anyways What I've found is with a driver like the BL that relies on motor strength more so then linear displacement is that a smaller box isn't always bad. I definitely wouldn't go over 7-8 cubes each or your going to get the "double peak." What I mean by that is when you used a driver designed more for SPL and put it in an oversized box tuned way low you will get a huge peak right above tuning and then instead of a gradual drop off in SPL as the frquency goes higher you will get a big drop off say 10-15hz above tuning and then it will get louder again 15-20hz up from tuning. Now I don't have any experience with BL's, but some drivers that did this REAL bad were MT's and the first gen magnums. Sx's for some reason wasn't too bad about it though and neither are my havocs. So you may or may not run into the problem with the BL's, but either way I'd say your better off in 6ish cubes. Definitely don't try to tune it to 28hz or something like that though. That's not the nature of a BL. A 32hz tune in six cubes with a BL will provide the low end that a 28hz tune in a huge box for a more sq based 18. I'd tune somewhere between 32 and 35hz. And also a BL is going to be better at home in a little bit smaller box and will get louder given the right amount of power then say a 8 cube 30hz box. Now as far as the explorer sport..... I've never done an install in one so I can't help you there.just brainstorming a little bit. got this idea least night when i was drinking a bit so if this idea is retarded...well thats why. i have good experience with 15" subs as far as box size and whats is generally a good box volume. however with 18"'s im kinda lost.
talking about the 18" BL in particular. each one needs 5-10 cubes...
1 - whats that spectrum cover? i see most people running roughly 6 cubes per 18". so where does the 10 cubes come in...is that stricly an spl comp style box (ie, big box big power, big numbers) or what?
2 - this one is more so for anyone that knows, or has experience. is it possible to fit 2 18" is a PROPER box in an explorer sport? measured some last night and measuring roughly 5" from the hatch, all the way across for width, and only up to the headrests in the back i got 11 cubes gross volume. i can also go across the wheel wells if need be and go above the rear head rests.
this is basically to just get ideas. i know bamaboy is running 12 cubes for his 18"s and like i said 6 cubes seems to be the average. whats everyones take on this?
2 18" or 2 15"s?
George
2k per is the way he likes it. Who knows 1200-1500(depending on actual wattage) could be enough for you to like it. I mean 2 18s in a explorer sport with **** near 3000 watts is gonna be loud no matter how you look at it. Go for the BLs if thats what ya want and if you dont have enough power to satisfy you, then upgrade the amp(s).thats the thing. 1meangta claims he needed almost 2k per to get his moving real nice. my amp CLAIMS 2960, but like ive said, ive heard that these birthsheets are just randomly generated numbers and not actual benchtests, and the actual output is closer to 2500w.
this means 2500 watts split between the 2 is only 1250w, a far cry from what 1meangta says he liked on his Bl's
x2..i think that zx2500 should be enuff though..//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif2k per is the way he likes it. i want SExxx: so for all this time ive been into caraudio ive been taught wrong that big boxes are for competition? wow, kinda depressing. nice information though, and very helpful. If any of this has been covered then sorry I didn't wanna read all the way through. thinking im gonna go with the Bl's based on i want sexxx's post that BL's probably work more off of motor force than linear excursion.so have u decided yet?

wkdbkid: well lets just say that with my 2 15" sx's, and a viper 2500, i wasnt satisfied. it was **** loud, but it didnt "awe" me if you will. so the louder the better for me //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif
fiverman: i hope so //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. my electrical is also a lot better than it was for my viper 2500.
are you talkin about the older mags? Not to say big boxes can't be used in competition especially in walls, but for example an MT15 is better in 2.5 cubes to 38hz then 4 cubes to 38hz. The tuning frequency isn't the only thing that determines how loud the peak is and where...... the box volume is actually a lot more important factor. Ask NGSM13 he built a HUGE box for a couple mags a long time ago, but tuned it way high and it peaked BELOW tuning.
yeah..it can take the power better...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gifare you talkin about the older mags?
if so i saw that a week or so ago on ROE and i looked at the tuning and what his db score was, and at what freq, and i saw it was below his tuning which was opposite of what ive learned.
and an mt15 is better in a smaller box?!
