Hello CarAudio.com i dont know a whole lot about the audio game. I am here for some help so id appreciate all of your inputs. Ok so heres my Setup

Jensen VM9312

6.5 Type R SPR-17LS components

6.5 Type R SPR-17c

TMA T4404 (PDX4.150 coming soon)

2 12" dual 4ohm Type R's in a sealed 2.28ft^3 box

1 PDX1.1000

So heres my dilemma. I hooked everything up the other day and my subs barely pound. I had an extra 12" Type R in a ported 1.25ft^3 box and they pounded 10x harder than my 2 12s. Now do you guys think its my Amp that isnt giving it enough power? specs on the amp is 1000wrms @4ohm and 1000wrms@2ohm. Or can it be my headunit or box? ive got my subs wired @ 4ohm load. Im thinking of picking up this box http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7008463&type=product&id=1099392684140 but im also thinking of changing the headunit as well because u can only change the treble, bass, mids and sub levels. So I dont know i hope u guys can help me out here. THANKS FOR READING!

try playing with the filter settings.

i remember my first system i ever had. i hooked it up, ported box, 1500w amp...drove down the street, and started listening. i was like "is that it?"

drove home. i called my buddy to come help me (he was inexperienced as well). as we started playing around. gain was set right, but my LPF was set to almost the lowest possible setting. i then, turned it up to about 80hz or so....and when i listened to my system it i was like "****! i had no idea that would increase the bass that much"

so yea, check to make sure you gain is set right, and check your filters (low pass filter) both at the amp, and at the head unit. make sure they are around 75-80hz. also make sure they are wired up right...btw, if those are the newer type r's...they can take a pdx1000 each no sweat.

you might be running the subs at 8 ohms which wont create much of a draw on that amp also if you have them in a crappy box. If you want them to pound loud your gonna need a good ported box and I along with everyone else on this forum will recomend you not to go with a prefab specially a bestbuy box. Good luck and hope that helps a bit. If you need to know how to rewire the subs correctly go to Rockfordfosgate.coma nd they have a wiring wizard that will help alot for beginners. I think the one issue you are going to run into though is that you will need a new 1 ohm stable amp.

eh? amp puts out the same 4ohm and 2ohm? if those subs are dvc4ohm hook them up to the amp at 1 ohm. and dont get prefab, build your own box, it'll be exactly to your own specs and cheaper and more fun.

Dual "x" ohm subs can either be wired to be "x" end result ohm load, or "1/4x." In other words, 2 dual 4 ohm subs will end up being wired at an end result 4 ohm load, or 1 ohm load. Dual 2s can be wired to produce either a 2 ohm load or a .5 ohm load, etc. Use this to help:

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp

Since the PDX puts out the same at 4 ohms as it does at 2, you should be seeing 1000w between the 2 subs, or 250w per voice coil, which is perfect for them. Your problem probably lies elsewhere, i.e. amp gain, box design, etc.

well thanks everyone for the input, i will look into getting a ported box. as well as rewiring my subs. this is how i currently have them hooked up.

now should i hook them up to this?

now will that make my subs into a 2 ohm load?

once again i appreciate all of ur guys input

impossible to run a pair of dual 4's at 8 ohms.....you have 3 choices 1,4 or 16 ohms

altho, i don't know anyone that would ever run all 4 coils in series.

I have 2 12" 4ohm type R's and thought that they were just too quite aswell. I was powering them with 350W each but i have just bought another amp which will give them 500W each but i have not installed it yet. I think the problem is with the box; if you go to ported instead of sealed im sure it will be much louder, just slightly less accurate.

my bet is your Headunit.. Did you have your last system hooked to the Jensen? I know when i put my SX 12's on mine that they barely rumbled til i added an eq/linedriver and boosted the voltage... If the last system was on the same HU then idk what the prob is.. maybe filters or gain or wired wrong

this will be a 1 ohm load wired like the second pic. check the specs on the amp and see if it is 1 ohm stable, if so then run your subs at a 1 ohm load. if not, stay w/ 4 ohm until you can get a 1 ohm stable amp.
