Peaks at ~350w input.. It's in a sealed enclosure; not looking for massive volume here...just good SQ //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif It gets plenty loud (can't see out of rear view at all and side mirrors vibrate some but not excessive)... My highs are plenty loud enough on 120wx2, but i'd like to push ~200wx2 or 4x150w (tweet channels turned way down of course) if i went with a 4ch. I think the woofers would really like 150w each. I've got this w6v1 as a loaner from my brother so probably will end up buying my own w6v2 or similar.

Hey rick //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Let me whip out my manual here... I tried setting 4, reference soft, but didn't like the dulling it produced to the very high end of the tweets (reference soft has a 2db per octave roll-off from 2.5khz UP to attenuate extreme high freq's in the case of the tweeter being mounted against a window or windshield which tends to amplify those frequencies). I settled on 'middle optimum', j5 in pos 3 and j4 in A. It's funny, the manual says for 'middle optimum' j5 should be in pos3 and j4 in pos A in the title describing it..., but then says pos B in the description. I tried it the way the description said (pos b on j4) and got no audio from tw...switched to pos A on j4 and it worked.

I haven't changed the x-over points for the woofers or tweets yet, nope. Might play with them this weekend actually //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

yes the manual is terribly wrong. right now I am deciding between setting 2 or 3. I think if i keep the HPF at 2600 I will keep the tweets at 2, if I wanted to go back to 2200 I would put them at 3. they also messed up the wording on the xover frequency points they say woofer where they mean tweeter right above figure 4. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Roger that. Evil manual //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I was pushing every button on my mp3 player yesterday, trying to find all the functions in the software that aren't documented in the manuals i have (there are alot as the manuals printed are from 5years earlier than the new software)...and lo and behold, I discovered the 7 band parametric EQ mode. AND THE ****ER WAS SET TO -6DB @ 18khz. This whole time i've been listening to excessively DULLED highs. I can't remember ever having seen this mode before so i think it was set like this when i bought the device. Yay for being a moron. The highs have a nice melodic ring to them now //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif The tweets just sound immensely more detailed...PSSSSH instead of PSSssshh //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif There was also a +1db 50hz boost set which i also removed. Arrrgh.

Switched the crossover's from 2.2khz to 2.6khz yesterday after noticing some distortion in heavy metal guitarwork from the tweets at high volumes -- it brought my soundstage down a bit but overall i think i prefer the sound with the x-over's adjusted up some. The tweets seem clearer and part of the midrange louder perhaps. I wish i could toggle the x-overs while playing like on my HU so i could compare directly... it's hard to tell what's psychoaccoustic in nature and what changes really came about from the adjustment.

Bought an Eclipse CD7000 yesterday. It's on it's way, w00t for fedex //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Going to get the wooden faceplate for the vehicle cut out/sanded + finished as soon as the new deck arrives. Both the empeg mp3 player and the CD7000 have modifiable color schemes so it should be funny to get them matched up //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif The CD7000 has a removable faceplate and the empeg is entirely sled based (as pictured earlier) so i'll be able to secure all my passenger cabin equipment when leaving the car. w00t for technology //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif. Next month i'm going to pick up a new amp for the germs...probably a 2500xxk or the like (somewhere around 250x2) and see how things liven up with that and deadened doors combined with a new subwoofer setup (probably replace the 1 sealed 12w6v1 with 2 sealed 12w6v2)

oh noes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

I was driving home last night listening to some techno as normal, not really cranked just cruising up to a stoplight...and i thought to myself, hmm something smells kinda sweet and hot like it's burning.

WTF, that's strange.

About 20 seconds later, my left midbass stopped putting out any sound and a second after that the entire frontstage went silent. The amp didn't overheat, heatsink is only warm to the touch. Turning the system off then back on results in audio from right woofer, right tweet, and left tweet (left woofer, no volume)..turning the volume anything beyond the very lowest setting results in the frontstage going silent.

//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif :(

I'm going to get some resistance readings off of the speaker when i go to lunch later today, or this evening if i have to take off the door panel. Suckage, i just got the CD7000 OTW so now i'm broke and have no frontstage but a new deck arriving tommorrow hehe

****. Just went out to lunch and got a reading for that woofer and the other (known working) woofer. I disconnected the wire from the x-over and tested it including the wire length from the trunk to the woofer. The good woofer reads between 3ohm and 6ohm, fluctuating. Should this be a steady reading between 3-4 ohm?!

The 'known bad' woofer reads 0.2ohms. So, either the 14ga shielded wire i ran for the speakers managed to get shorted together (doubtful) or the left woofer in my germs has a melted coil that is a dead short now. I didn't have a screwdriver with me so i couldn't get into the door panel to test the speakers poles directly yet but the low resistance combined with that sweet smelling hot odor i smelled at the time makes me think something internal to the speaker bit the dust. This is pretty disturbing to me since my amp, even at it's higher volumes, has never measured more than 18a INPUT...in a class A/B amp like this, taking efficiency's into account i can't see having pushed more than ~90w per side to these at any one time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Turns out it was the woofer //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif It's being replaced (w00t for 6spd!).

This week i installed my CD7000 in replacement of the CD8454 i had before. So far it's a thumbs up situation. The new eclipse remote is nice. I always liked the nob remote, but somewhere between the CD8051 and the CD8454 eclipse made their response excessively sluggish. The new digital remote doesn't seem to suffer from the same fate. The changeable button color schemes are cool and the full color display rocks. My brother is going to be fabricating the new faceplate for the dash this weekend //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Will post pics!

just saw the first page, some nice stuff you got there. do you think you could give me link to where you bought that empeg thing? thats amazing how you can control it from the server.
Heya. Thanks //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif I gotta get a new pic with the CD7000 installed. One of the big improvements in the CD7000 over my old CD8454 is my empeg had such strong outputs that the aux in on the CD8454 clipped @ -12db or so on my empeg. With the CD7000, you get adjustable AUX-IN sensitivity..with it set at low, i can max the volume on the empeg and use the volume control for my cd7000 instead of the empeg. The empeg is superior in many ways though (it's got a 'hush' button on the remote that instantly reduces volume by a set % when you hit it... hitting it again returns to previous volume...much nicer than mute. The empeg is seriously badass. Nothing comes close to the kind of power it delivers to the end user in the car. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif Since it's been discontinued 5+ years now the only place to get one is used. I got mine from a guy on http://www.empegbbs.com in the 'for sale' forum. I got mine with 1x20gb drive for 350$ + shipping. I've seen alot of them sold for 400 or so with 60gb drives in them. One went on ebay just 10 days ago for 375 with a 60gb.

The only downside to the empeg is that in direct florida sunlight (no tinted windows yet in this car), it's very hard to read -- it's the only part of the unit that shows it's age, even this long after it's release and discontinuation. They make different lenses that are a bit easier to read than the one i have in there, though. http://www.riocar.org has a FAQ with a 'lens compare' section that has pictures of all the different colored lenses in different types of light. (http://www.riocar.org/lens.php). The FAQ @ riocar.org is the place to start if you are serious about getting one. Community support for this thing is amazing; there's even a guy who does repairs on them and can install optical-output boards onto it. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif Up to 200gb of mp3's in a fully indexed + searchable little box that docks into your car but can also provide the signal your in-home stereo too...and stream any of the MP3's to multiple users over the LAN at the same time the unit is outputting sound through it's own preouts (for a totally different track).
