1994 Corvette First Build

i know what youre saying, and thats what i meant. its not going to be very sturdy/rigid without anything underneath it. i would cut the cloth out over the hole, staple fleece from side to side to patch the hole, and THEN glass over it. trust me. or even better, put a piece of mdf in there.
youre doing a great job for your first time, but believe me, i have alot of experience with this stuff. just trying to help out before its too late.

I appreciate your comments, and this is the first time I've ever fiber-glassed anything... I already have the resin waiting to cure on there , if it doesn't work out I can always cut it out again. I can't use fleece right now because I'd have to hot glue it in, the box is all fiberglass so I can't staple it and the resin being wet wouldn't let me hot glue it right now. But I don't see how it would make a difference either way, that cloth is going to be rock hard before I start glassing it. I do see how the fleece would have been a better idea since I could have stretched it and it would be tight. If I screw it up I'll post pics of the screw up lol...

Nice build, and for the record, fiberglass doesnt need to be 1/2" thick..... cmon
That's actually something I read on the fiberglass forums... it was really solid before I added more glass to get it close to 1/2 inch so I think you're right.

its not too late man. get a staple gun, staple fleece in. believe me, once you add a couple layers those staples will be gone

Staple into the fiberglass? I didn't think they would go in but if they can I'll try it. I don't remember who said the 1/2 inch thing but it was on that forum... at least it's really solid now lol.

yea i forgot, i was thinking you had some mdf right under there. its up to you, but if it was mine id let it cure, cut that hole open, stretch fleece or fill with and mdf piece, and glass over.. youre going to end up doing it now or later..

These are the mounts I made for the rear 6.5 Rainbow Germaniums (Thanks 6spdcoupe!!! best sounding speakers I've had), I still need to make the cutouts for the tweeter and clean up the edges, maybe use a roundover bit on them

Install looks like it's coming along great.

I have a question though, not audio related. When gunning it from a still position, does the rear of your car swing like crazy? My cousin has a '90 Vette and wants to know how to get a good launch that doesnt require a slow start. I'm sure tension bars would help, but it's hard finding those //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Aftermarket suspension parts should help that, it's a common problem I read about at the corvette forum (unless he wants to convert to a solid rear axle). As far as exactly what needs to be done I don't know, I'd go there and search or post a question. Sticky tires will help but I think it has more to do with it being a rear split axle and the way the transmission/differential turns them. I'm definitely not a suspension/drivetrain guru though.

I think it will be strong enough to support the next layers of repair glass //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
