1986 Chevy Caprice Classic

It's a pain to take apart. The heater control assembly and radio are attached together, and it's not just a matter of unplugging harnesses to pull it out.

You should find 2 screws above the heater, and 2 more inside the ashtray cavity after you remove the ashtray. Removing them allows you to pull the whole assembly a few inches out of the dash, but the cables at the back of the heater controls will hold you up. If you look behind the glove box, you will find a point where one of the heater control cables is anchored; you can release it to give yourself some more room.

Once you have the whole setup pulled far enough from the dash, look on the BACK side to find the 4 screws that hold the radio and air conditioner controls together. If you can get a socket or nutdriver into position to remove these, you should then be able to unplug the radio and remove it.
