It is sexy, but it is made of something a little different?

no one pointed this out yet, and maybe its jus the angle, but the 18 looks wet.

takes the 12" about 2600 to move much, so i'd guess the inefficiency of the 18" will be worse. i'd imagine needing something like a zapo 4kw or goliath or something.

Given the same motor, the efficiency of the 18 will be at least 4dB or 5dB higher than the 12".

The moving mass of a cone and air in front of it, be it 12" or 18" is so little compared to the force these motors produce, especially the RE XXX. it doest struggle with an 18" diaphragm. The 18 will require less than 1/2 the power to sound equally as loud.

It uses the conventional 3" Flatwound VC.

common sense? think about it, if your motor is no bigger, but your basket is what 60% bigger as is cone area, you have to put more to get more. at least that's what my midget nick tells me.

I think you may be confusing how much power it takes for the driver to reach full excursion as opposed to the sensitivity of the driver as a whole. In the case of two drivers with the same motor, one being a 12 and one an 18, yes it will take a little more power to get the 18 to full excursion because of its slightly higher moving mass. The 18 on the other hand will be more sensitive, simply because it has so much more cone area and not enough extra moving mass to overcome the advantage of so much cone area.

Personally I like that little RE RE 8" sub sitting there! I got 4 of them awaiting install! Of course if I had the space for somehting like the XXX I would do it, but I dont think it would work so well in the CC Truck...haha
