18" FI Q vs 2 12" Type Rs (Noob)

Hope this is a different question from what is normally posted, I know you guys get this shit all the time, but hopefully I can get some advice.

My current setup:

P580MP

BXi2006D

2 12" Type R Dual 4s in a prefab (I know) box

I can't stand the way the R's sound when they hit, like a bad slapping sound, so I think I'm leaning towards a sub aimed at sound quality, like the Q.

Again, this is going off all the positive reviews I've read. I've never experienced an FI sub.

I plan on powering it with the BXi2006, somewhere around 1300-1500 rms, or more if possible.

So my questions are,

Will an 18" Q sound infinitely better than my R's, without the hideous slapping noise?

How will an 18" Q compare SPL-wise to the R's?

I'm not an SPL person, my ears can't take it, but I can't lie, crushing some punk with 2 Audiobahns at a red light is fun. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Also, if you have any suggestions for an SQ-oriented sub in my price range ($400 max), they're greatly appreciated.

HUMM, slapping noise. I don't get that reaction from my type R. You could go with a type X for sq, if you have the juce to power them. Though I have never heard them personnaly, I only heard good things about the FI's so, they would seem to be a good choice as well.

Slapping is just the word I'm using to describe the noise, just the noise of the subs moving in general.

I have my gain up about 3/4 of the way. Bass Boost (BB?) is very low, almost all the way down.

This is going in a 2000 Blazer by the way.

If I got the Dual 2 Ohm Q, I could wire it to 1 ohm and power it with the BXi, right?

if you find a good used dd3515 they sound so nice.. its in your price range too. but not sure if your amp set up will be able to push it
