18" BL in a trunk

oh okay, thanks for posting, it helped me a tad:)

well i did this design just now after measuring my trunk a little more. this enclosure is pretty much the only way i can fire the sub forward and port forward too. the one side the port is coming out of is12.5x6.5 x20 long. thats 81.25 square inches of port and its tuned to 32 hz give or take. the volume before port of sub displacement is 7.58cf. after port and sub displacement it is 6.4cf. the part right at the bottom of the sub will probably have to be glasses into the spare tire well piece because i anticipate the basket will hit it. the sub cutout is actually the overall diameter of the sub

this design seems good to me, but i would like eveyones opinion //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

thats actualy wht i was thinknin about tellnig you when i saw the first redition of it firing forward

idk how itll work.. im not that good yet haha

.. but thats how i would say to do it

good luck.. subscribed

hah thanks man, i hope it turns out well

i was thinking of building the port on oneside and having the sub on the other like mazda mentioned, but it basically has to be centered over the wheel well in order to fit. i guess if i need a little more port area i could slide the sub over a few inches but i would probably need to glass a lot more then. anyways keep the comments coming

now hurry n build it
good things take time my friend

keep the comments coming! i want to redo the mock up build tomamrow haha and i want to make sure this is a good plan //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif

^^^First off that enclosure looks crazy as fock bro, what the hell. If you want to fit an 18 in there, and actually have it sound good then you will prolly have to do a "build in" There is obviously no way to fire it forward since the trunk isnt tall enough, unless you basically built an enclosure with the sub being were the back of the seat is. That leaves you with firing to the rear or firing up. Firing up will probably cancel out alot but it will probably be the easiest to do. I had an 18" SX firing up in the trunk of my T-Bird, it canceled out a little but it was still loud as FOCK!! I like how the mock up is going though and that looks like it will be your best bet. I would just use as much space as you can in the spare tire well and do a build in in your trunk utilizing all the space you can.

Just my .2 cents //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

yea it is definatly a crazy design....but it is really the only way i can fit it firing forward. and in my car, sub and port forward is loud. the way i have it in that design, it is basically firing forward. it would be easy to just fire it up, or back, but i want it forward since i know that for my car that is best. and i do belive this way will work. the box will most definatly be done in the trunk, or done in 4 pieces or so and all atached together inside the trunk. i dont expect it to be easy, but i know it can be done. i could probably find anothe cube or so inside my trunk somewhere:D i am going to mock up this new design if i have time today, so i will see how it goes

anyways, thanks for the help:)

I used to have a 1996 Grand Prix coupe, and I built around a 7 cubic foot box in the trunk one time. It was for 2 15's, and I fired them up into the trunk lid, port out back. They were a little too close to the lid I think, but the setup still got really loud.

I had to build the box in 2 sections then assemble it in the trunk.

Alright in that design you have the sub is firing to the rear, it doesnt matter if its inverted or not it is still firing to the rear..........and a box with big chambers at the sides has a very good possiblity of sounding FUCKED UP, you need to re-think that design, you dont want those "chambers" in your enclosure.

And if that is the only way you can fit it, then you are better off going with a 15 or a couple 12's, any of those in "proper enclosures" will blow away an 18 in some ****ed up box......

alright, i get what you mean. from what you have said i made changes to the design....this would be it

now unless there is some other "weird" chamber i dont know about, i dont see why this wouldnt perform like any other box. the spare tire piece, and the angle of the sub is about the only difference between this box and a normal slot ported box. and well, the obviously fact that its externally ported.
