1500 @ 1ohm Amp Comparison

It seems to me the amps you listed go for around 200-250 bucks. I say save up another hundred or so and go with the sundowns that were recc'd earlier. If you pay 300 for a 1500d now, you can resell it for the same money later as long as it is still in good shape, you save money in the end

CX-7,

That's exactly my thinking at the moment. Since I take good care of my equipment, I think it's a safe and intelligent choice to go with the Sundown.

Then in 2 years, or so, when I've got serious experience, I'll upgrade to the "best amp" of that time period, and stomp some crotches. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nutkick.gif.acc8dcd6c1bd27fba0cbeda5b212085c.gif

Thanks for the advice everyone.

Chris

Are you competing in Stock or Pro-Stock?

If you are on a 12v system, DD M3 or IA 20.1 all the way.

Load them to a dead short and watch the power flow //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

But really.

What car do you have?

I'm in a Maroon RAV4 (first gen) with 50 LSU Tiger Band stickers all over it. Competed locally around Shreveport, LA area for a couple years, but never at a serious level.

Had the 21" sub (designed for theaters/imax use) and pimped that for a year with a couple boxes. Good for show, and it had a 4" voice coil, but the cone wasn't stiff enough to really hit high SPLs (it cried for mercy at ~145's), regardless of power level. It was an excellent sub for being heard a mile away though. So much air moved...

Recently I've just been piddling around trying to design, while thinking things through properly.

I'll stick with Stock classes for now. I've got to keep the car "normal" for a few more years, so no walls, no above window line, no major charging system mods.

Interesting comments about the IA and DD amps. How do you manage the fusing and controlling of an amp that runs THAT far beyond it's written stats?

And power efficiency at 1/4 ohm (short) FETs on Fire! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rage.gif.0ad8a6e5565b5fddce406566fdd05149.gif

Treo SSX 750.1 would be a solid mid priced amp as well if you can find one, I paid $350 for mine a while back but I have seen them go for ~$275 on egay ocassionally. Hell if you can afford it the Treo CXT 4.1 would be a monster in your class if its still legal.

Nothing wrong with any of those amps really. All very solid and will perform well. I know a guy that runs nothing but Powerbass stuff with much sucess and uses that exact amp and does him well.

I have used a ton of gear from Maxxsonics, so I recommend the Hifonics just from my experience with them. I have never had a problem with their customer service........because I have never had to call them, lol!

The Audiopipe is nice, but would be my last choice as I ran one of their amps when they first came out and wasn't that impressed with it. They might have come a long way since then, who knows.

I know all about rolling on a budget.............I budget myself differently though. I have 3 kids....with one on the way, lol!

Congrats on the 4th little one. Just went to a wedding last night. Paki/Indian weddings are beautiful. The couple is planning on 5 or 6 kids.

Anyways, thanks for the positive feedback on Powerbass and Hifonics. I'm fairly certain that there is no "bad" answer here, just a matter of choosing the best one for me.

x2 on Powerbass, I'm running all Powerbass right now and do very well locally. 2 3xl 12's and a 1000.1D on each sub at 1/2 ohm and a PB bass enhancer. 150-151 on the Audiocontrol. And customer service couldn't be better. Plus the price is right.

i've run the ASA1000.1's before , with a decent electrical they don't really have a problem with a 1/2 ohm load, for the money they were very impressive, but for 0 - 600 I like the IA20.1.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Sorry for neglecting the thread for a couple days. Had some system testing to do.

I have another major factor for the amp's consideration:

1/2 ohm performance

Audiopipe is solid at 1/2 ohm, with proper electrical. Reasoning, the AP-30001d is 2 of these strapped (check amp guts) and is 1 ohm stable. Many others on the forum have had success too. I believe around 2k @ 1/2 ohm.

Guts of the 6000:

Sundown is definitely stable, but it voids the warranty. Good amps are worth voiding though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Powerbass is an unknown... Since the power rating is linear down to 1 ohm, I would *think* that it is 1/2 ohm stable, but no telling without a proper review.

Hifonics, I wouldn't risk it, even though I've heard some success, it's likely from impedance rise, rather than stability.

IA 20.1 and DD M3 are easily in this catagory, but not being considered, just yet...

Opinions, experiences, etc. are welcome, as always.
