1500 @ 1ohm Amp Comparison

Sorry for neglecting the thread for a couple days. Had some system testing to do.
I have another major factor for the amp's consideration:

1/2 ohm performance

Audiopipe is solid at 1/2 ohm, with proper electrical. Reasoning, the AP-30001d is 2 of these strapped (check amp guts) and is 1 ohm stable. Many others on the forum have had success too. I believe around 2k @ 1/2 ohm.

Guts of the 6000:

Sundown is definitely stable, but it voids the warranty. Good amps are worth voiding though. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

Powerbass is an unknown... Since the power rating is linear down to 1 ohm, I would *think* that it is 1/2 ohm stable, but no telling without a proper review.

Hifonics, I wouldn't risk it, even though I've heard some success, it's likely from impedance rise, rather than stability.

IA 20.1 and DD M3 are easily in this catagory, but not being considered, just yet...

Opinions, experiences, etc. are welcome, as always.

LoL. That's my amp picture.

Word up, Pimp.

I got a giggle out of AudioPipe strapping 2 boards together with almost no other mods... besides some monster 4 ga wiring.

I think that is a sign that the company believes in the 1/2 ohmability of their product. Maybe that's just me, though...

How much POWER did you get out of that beast running 1 ohm strapped/bridged?

I'm trying to figure which will give me more power PB or AP. My guess is PB, since it's linear down to 1... 2200 vs 2000 isn't much to cry over though.... Yes, 10wRMS/dollar //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/veryhappy.gif.fec4fed33b4a1279cf10bdd45a039dae.gif

So, they claim this amp with only 16 outputs does 6000 watts? Skeptical....

Though I was skeptical of the Stetsom too, but I see they are really high current outputs in the Stetsom, I doubt it in this amp....

Board's reminds me of the Sound Magnus X3100, Also the same set up as the Reference Hi-Fi X3000

Must be the same build house as Reference Hi-Fi and the new Massive Audio and Soundmagnus.

get the audiopipe 15001 it is a bad little amp and i have wired them down to .4ohm without a problem.

the pix is of the 30001 which is a dual monoblock rated to do 1500x2 or 3000x1 and it dose every bit of that. i have installed a few and own 1,great amp...

Sorry about that... I was reading about the 6000 before that... It's most def the ap-30001d

For those with either the 1500 or 3000, how much fusing is on it? Just curious, for comparison.

I've used MTX 81001s with good experience, but i upgraded to Sundown and was very very happy. For the price, i had a pair of 81001s which i received fairly cheap and never had any problems, up until i smoked them while strapped to .25 completely due to user negligence. It was fine for months, up until i was really playing and didnt realize i had a test tone after a song, and it saw a 25 hz test tone with a box tuned to 50. lol. It didnt last long, but i abused those amps for a long time, if you know what your doing you can get away with it. I did not at that time. If i could get my hands on another one of those amps, i'd grab one in a heartbeat. But mainly because i'm broke right now, and its cheap power. Their 3k amp used to wholesale for filthy cheap as well, the 92001.

For those asking about my 21" sub, it was made by Madison Speakers back in 2003 for a limited time. Mine was a 4" voice coil, but 5"ers were sold.

Not terribly well designed, or built... but it moved some serious air. You could hear this guy down the block with 200w on him.

So from some searching on bench test results, I found that:

Powerbass ASA-1500.1D

1434 @ 1 ohm (no voltage stated)

728 @ 2 ohm

371 @ 4 ohm

rating:

1500 @ 1 ohm

750 @ 2 ohm

375 @ 4 ohm

Audiopipe AP-15001D

934 @ 2.25 ohm and 11.5 V

rating:

1500 @ 1 ohm

950 @ 2 ohm

600 @ 4 ohm

Both do rated, and are 1/2 ohm stable. AP has a few more watts under it's belt.

My only concern is the difference in efficiency, for my stock alternator (for now). Powerbass proudly proclaims "High Efficiency" next to its RCAs. Audiopipe appears to be more old school, "I'll play loud, if you don't ask about my power usage!" style.

Anyone heard aboot the relative efficiency of the amps?

Referencing someone's work is the highest compliment, where I work, in research.

And you know from reading this thread that I've got a ways to go before I can match get on your level, Lakota. Nothing but respect to you and the BOAB crew in the MECA comps.

On a side note, if you need a Duurty South, USACi member for your team, drop me a PM. I am scraping the bottom with my budget, and burpin/bangin hard.

I read everything in the archives that I could find, and here are my top 3 choices for budget (though quality) amps capable of 1500 w RMS @ 1 ohm or more.
I'll be competing in the 0-600w RMS @ 4 ohm class of USACi, so I can't go *much* bigger. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/crap.gif.7f4dd41e3e9b23fbd170a1ee6f65cecc.gif

I'm hoping to get some honest opinions on customer service, reliability, and build quality from the forum gurus.

Thanks,

Chris
To be competitive nationally you're gonna need an RD5, Cactus PF600, DD M3, IA 20.1 or one of a few other serious amps. Not hifonics or new AP for sure. You'll need to get down to .35 or .25 ohms and keep the impedance rise to a minimum.

the Stock 0-600 is tough.
