BTW I wouldnt consider a driver to be SQ oriented if I have to tune it at 38hz
What the fawk does box tuning have to do with it? Mine play well below tuning and sound VERY clean and accurate.

Ask anyone who's heard my car as plenty of local CA guys have. It's all in the install and how you tune it...

If your throwing 2k at a single driver, your not looking at SQ. I think you would be happy with an HD3 or HDC. If you really want "SQL" get 2 Q's 12" and 2000 watts and then you'll be happy.
Why not? My 05 XXX 15 will love the 2k it will be getting, and Im sure it would sound fantastic. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Ummmm.....well....actually......a lot //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/confused.gif.e820e0216602db4765798ac39d28caa9.gif

Can you play them down to 20hz and have a nice flat response? About where do they peak at?

Im not ragging on the HDC3, Ive never heard one or used one. But I just cant see myself tuning an enclosure that high for my taste. Ive never liked tuning above 34hz, just too much upper end. But hell, if the HDC3 can be tuned that high and get a flat response and low end down to 20hz out of it, then sweet.

I think everyone can admit it all comes down to the install. You can make almost anything sound good.

edit- Just my personal taste, Ive just always been under the impression that they have a peaky upper end. I dont know why, but thats just been my impression.

What the hell would I be playing in my car at 20Hz? I save that stuff for my HT //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

They peak at 31hz in a box tuned to 38Hz, so they have no problem playing below tuning.

I bolded the part that is the REAL problem. You've never heard one, yet make assumptions about it. I make it a rule to never offer advice on something I've never personally heard as then it's just a foolish opinion at best and does nothing to help the person who asked the question //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

If you talk to DJ at AQ he'll tell you that the HDC was designed to sound good playing all types of music, and it also happens to get very loud if pushed hard. I believe that's more a byproduct of him trying to make the subs bulletproof for inexperienced users who tend to blow stuff up out of negligence.

There's a few guys posting in this thread that have heard my setup and can attest to the ability of the HDC's to play rock, blues, R&B, etc... and sound VERY good doing it. Not bloated or bottom heavy just clean bass that blends with my front stage. They've also heard them get a tad loud //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

I understand, but I was never giving anyone advice in the first place. I was just stating my opinion based on the recommended tuning. Just stating that in a SQ oriented install I personally wouldnt tune that high.

BTW thats awesome that they peak down at 31 with that tuning, you learn something new every day //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

I just like that 20hz material //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/yumyum.gif.0556df42231b304b9c995aefd13928a8.gif

i know where a nice pair of 15"s are that can handle 2k daily //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif
his subs are sexy awesome low end monsters if they are similar to a reg 3k which im sure they are from what i member he told me:cool:

I had two Q 15's and they lasted about a week on the IA 40.1... Ideally, they were the exact type of drivers that I was looking for just not enough power handling... Maybe 3 Q 12's?
2 Q's and an IA 40.1 is just stupid. I misread - I thought you had 2k RMS total.

Besides the XXX of course. Ha. I know they are known for sounding good. Just the old, if you have 2000 watts to a sub, it isn't SQ. But I'm not saying I wouldn't do it! Just saying that I think he would be happy with other drivers, such as the HDC.
