I have a JL W6v2 12" Subwoofer being powered by the JL E1800D Amplifier. I am trying to find the right gain setting for this one sub because I have had it cut out on me a few times because the amplifier is protecting me from I guess over driving it. I was wondering if any of you could give me some tips on how I should set this gain so I do not end up burning the voice coil out or anything like that.

-Thanks in advance-

Trey

I cant haha I already have the 1800D bought, If I went back I would be losing a ton of money. I currently have the W6 in the high output box JL designed, should I save up and buy another one?? Would that balance things out a little better?

Where do you have the gain set?

You need to keep the gain low with that amp and sub combo. The 12w6v2 is 4 ohm dvc, so im assuming you have it wired to 2 ohms. Correct me if Im wrong, but I believe that amp puts out close to 1000 watts at 2 ohms, and the sub is rated at 400 watts.

move to a 500/1 for that sub...

That's the worst advice. ever.

Why would he want to spend extra money when there's absolutely nothing wrong? All he needs to do is set his gain properly.

See if you can borrow an oscilloscope from somebody. Should really help when settings gains.
