12" sub that handles 1200-1400w RMS with a space conscious box

I had 2 2005 RE Audio XXX 12s with 2 DEI d2400 (or DEI 1500D or 1100d however you wanna look at it) amps powering them. Anyways so now I am trying to reclaim my trunk space.

I am considering keeping one of my XXX's and not selling it and just going with a 2.5 cube ported tuned to 33hz. But at the same time that is a bit of trunk space so I am weighing my options.

This sub / amp will be the only aftermarket speakers in my next car, but never the less.

What subs would be good replacements here? I am not looking to upgrade SPL wise, or really downgrade SQ wise.

So what are the SQL subs out that perform well with a small gob of power now?

And in your guys opinion, am I just best off keeping my XXX unless I make space a big concern?

Also, does RE Audio recone these older speakers still? The sub is 4 years old and if I keep them around in my car for another 2-3 years and they go I want to know that I can still get them repaired.

i'd personally like to try the ED 16ov in 2.5 cubes ported. 1000 watts i think.
