12" solox not loud, at all.

sell the solo X 12, buy a 15" L7, add two 4" wide x 14" deep areo ports.

That would be 3.4 cubes net at about 35Hz and .04 mach. Make sure the areo

ports inside port opening are no closer than 6 to 8" to the opposite interior wall.

In other words, mount the 14" deep ports where they have at least 21" of depth.

Probably go woofer up - port back if you can.

-enjoy

Nah I'm not a nub. Gains set with multimeter, sub was used not new. Built a big box for low notes and port. I don't post *****, I read a lot and use the search button; hence the 2002 join date.
Yet you placed this woofer in a box way to large. Try reading the manual, as that whats its ment for, and if if you do not have access to it, it is also available on kickers website.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I have 2 15" kicker L7's laying around. I wanted to make the box big enough in case i ever wanted to switch. I had seen people recommending 3.8 or even 4.0. The box is 3.8 before displacement. I'm sure the sub takes up a lot of room, which would make it smaller. I have yet to port it.

If i use enough port area that will also make the box smaller.

You have never seen anyone recommend a 3.8-4.0 cube sealed box for a SoloX 12.
You keep saying you haven't ported it yet... what are you waiting for exactly? You dont have a sealed enclsoure, you have a half finished ported enclosure that you threw the sub in anyway, and then wonder why it doesn't perform for shit. Duh? Come on dude, quit beating around the bush. You've had like 15 guys tell you your problem. Fix it, move in a different direction totally, or live with it. Sitting here trying to convince us a 4 cube sealed box should be okay wont make it perform any better.

This guy obviously did a search also. He found people recommending 4 cu ft too. I plan on porting it. I finished the box last night and wasn't about to go out at 2am to port it. I was just trying to get some insight on the solo-x. I got it free anyway.

You did not find anyone recommending 4 cubes sealed. Let me say it again... sealed. Quoting some thread where ported specs were recommended, is irrelevant, as you are attempting to use those specs in a sealed application. The sealed counterpart to a ported enclosure is generally half the size, the specs dont interchange.
Build a sealed enclosure the right size, or port the box you have. You cannot possibly expect the sub to perform well in the conditions you have now.

Yea I messed up on the cu ft. Its 4.2 cu ft before sub displacement. Dimensions are 31.5 length x 15 height x 15.5 width, all inside dimensions. I take it that 2 15" L7s wont fit huh?

I wanted to build the biggest possible box that could fit in my trunk because the wood was free. I used 3/4 inch plywood until I could get some MDF. I made it big so I could know the exact size that I could go If I ever wanted to upgrade.

Should I cut down the box's length and use the solo-x, or should i try the 2 15"s and brace the box as much as possible?

The box is almost done, pop a couple aeroports in it of the appropriate size, and see what the SoloX does for you in the right box.
Either system has capablilities for good output. Pick one and maximize its potential (right box, right power, good install, etc). The quality and dedication of the install will make more difference than which of these two setups you chose.

I'm strapped for cash and Areo ports are expensive. Could I use pvc pipe, maybe 4" or 6"? How many should I go for and at what length?

http://www.mobileinformationlabs.com/HowTo-1Woofer-Box-CAL%20Port%20lenth%201.htm

I use this calculator and 4 4" ports will be too long, 2 6" ports will be too long, Should I do 1 "6 port at 10 inches? This is all for a tune of 35 hz. Should I go higher on the tune, maybe 38?

I ended up using 2 4" ports 10.75 inches long. The box is tuned to 35hz. I hooked it all back up and it literally made the sub come to life. Not as loud as I had hoped. I may end up making a new box for the 2 15" L7's and tune them to 32hz. What do you guys think?

The solo-x also has some cracks in the surround where it meets the basket. Its the older 04 model with the foam surround. The cracks are in all 4 corners, which have cracked through all the way. The rest of the surround is cracked too.
