12" Fi Q Box Build..Beware 56k.

I think you did a very good job considering the cuts you were dealing with.
I really would not like to go back to home depot, but a table saw is not in my budget, nor could I find a place for it.

I had to purposely build the box with an overhang on one panel so the port would turn out correctly. This overhang can't just be cut off like that 1/8" of excess end pictured in my first post. I wasn't planning on carpeting this box, but if I don't find a way to fix the overhang, I will want to.

Anyone got some harsh cristism about this box? I need to hear it if there is any.

There's nothing wrong with that box. If you made it any better, it would just be overbuilt....it looks fine to me for daily purposes.

Many people like to overbuild their boxes though, and there is nothing wrong with that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

edit: a thicker front baffle may be appropriate, but if it's solid then it wouldn't matter much.

Not a big deal if I do need to double baffle the front of the box. I was actually thinking the 1" dowel was almost overkill. I've never used this kind of bracing before so I just went big right away. Not to mention it was cheap.

Everything that needs to be changed has already been said by you. Ya just need a saw.

Nice work. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/cool.gif.3bcaf8f141236c00f8044d07150e34f7.gif

I just so happen to have extra length sitting around on that dowel. How am I supposed to get it in there exactly? If I make it 12" tall, wouldn't it be impossible to tilt it into position?

We have about 10 cats running around our acreage, should I throw a couple more in for good measure? And how loud is poop exactly?
Yeah, cats are a form of polyfil that is affective with ported enclosures. Poop is loud enough to make you poop yourself, so have fun scrubbing those seats down...//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

What I do is drill a small hole where I want the dowel to be and then put a flashlight on top of the hole. Turn out the lights and put a mark where the light shines. Then drill a small hole at the mark.

Next make the dowel a hair shorter and tilt in. Tap with a hammer until both holes are covered (the dowel is blocking the small hole). When you get it where you want it, draw a circle where the dowels go. (trace around them) Next, remove the dowel and put glue on it. Slide it back where you traced out. The extra step prevents you smearing glue all over the inside of your box or the top/bottom of the dowel has dried glue.

After everything is set, you can screw the dowel in from the top. Or you can drill a bigger hole and use a small wooden dowel + glue. The wooden dowel method is stronger IMO but more work
