10's/12's better for hiphop/techno??

i was talking to my buddy and he told me i should go with either some 10's or 12's if i play mainly hiphop and techno because they will move faster.. would these be better than say a 15"?
hip hop and techno isnt really a detailed type music, so it wouldnt matter much!

are you after high output or what is it you want out of your system

Not a detailed type of music???? WTH are you talking about? Bypass this guy's reply.

I listen to techno all day. I've tested out alot of subs at the shops in the area I live in. From my experience, subs in ported boxes are terrible for techno. They seem to put out a ton of rumble, but no thump. Sealed boxes seem to separate the bass notes much better and you can actually distinguish each bass hit. There are alot of cheap subs that will sound good with the right tuning.

As for size, I would look in to an 8" or a 10". 12" and above just make it a little harder to blend in with the front midbass speakers considering that SQ is your goal. The cheapest way to get the desired output will probably require two subs. I would suggest two 10" IDQ's or Phoenix Gold RSD's. Those are both about as quality as you can get for under $150. Throw those in a sealed box with a Hifonics 1606D amp and you're good to go at less than $600.

For what I hope is the last time...

A properly designed and built ported system will have all the "thump" of a sealed system and will be louder in the lower bass range at the cost of increased box size. The typical ported prebuilt system is a one note box that sounds like garbage and is not at all indicative of the normal sound of a ported system. The bass that you hear in the club is coming from a ported system. Same with concert setups.

Secondly, the size of the cone has nothing in and of itself to do with the "speed" of the woofer. The "speed" is determined by what freq is fed to the sub and the inductance of the voicecoil. There are 18" midranges in the professional audio world that are "faster" than any 8" sub. All cone area determines is the amount of air being moved. More air moved means more output. The result is that a larger sub will be louder than a smaller one with other things being equal. You can equal the output of a larger sub with multiple smaller ones to get more cone area. Blending the sub with a front stage is a simple matter of matching levels and can be done with any size sub. In fact it's really easier to match up a powerful substage to a front stage than it is to do with a weak one. You can always turn the subs down if they are too loud but you can only get a weak setup so loud befroe it hits its limit and won't give you any more output. If you front stage is still louder than the subs at this point you have to turn down the fronts and the max level of the sub ends up being your limiting factor in the volume of the system.

MIDBASS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This will be your determining factor in getting that slam in your chest. Adjusting your midwoofer's and subwoofer's level along with both crossover frequencies will determine how much midbass you get. As just stated, you MUST integrate the subwoofer with the front stage to get the most out of your sub. For well over a year I was disappointed with the midbass output of my system. The sub was turned up too ****ed much, which overpowered my midbass. Turn the sub all the way down. Get your front stage to the volume you want. Then keep slowly turning up the subwoofer. If you can localize the woofer it's too loud. If you no longer sense the midbass coming from in front of you it's too loud.

lol aint that the truth

I use to have notepad docs containing canned replies to questions about batts, caps, xmax, cone size fallacies, etc etc. Id just copy/paste them.

Hmm Ihavent thought of those in a while, maybe I should dig them out again. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fro.gif.c695f1f814b01c4ad99fe7f8cccadd29.gif
