0 gauge wire diameter

Hi,

I'm looking to buy some 0 gauge wire. I went to a local audio store and they have a 0 gauge wire that seems kind of cheap. It measures about 5/8" outside diameter and about 3/8" inside diameter . Can any of you guys tell me what will be a good inside diameter for a 0 gauge wire? thank you

So if it was 3/8 inside diameter it was about right.

The diameter I gave above was the national standard, and I believe it refers to solid wire only, so for stranded wire, perhaps the number should be slightly bigger? I'm not sure.

Where in wisconsin ya from and what shop did you check that out at? I have heard all different numbers and also, I may be wrong on this, but strand count is important to an extent to.

I think strand count only affects flexibility. However, if you can get the strand count, and the diameter of a single strand...then you can get overall cross-sectional area of the copper and compare it to the standard for solid copper wire.

Im not sure if this site is the same or the same price as it used to be, but the point is, welding cable can be pretty cheap, it doesnt look as sexy, but its usually quite flexible, and has plenty of copper...

I'm using the orange Ultra-flex from WeldingSupply.com and I'm very happy with it. It's 1/0 and limp like a noodle.
