sub selection for kicker key 500.1 already wasted a kicker 8"

long story short is a put a kicker system in my new bronco and used the kicker key 500.1 for the sub which was the kicker comp 8" which is wayyy to small for that kicker amp. the amp is up maybe 1/3 of the way and it just rattles that 8" like nothing. i have to keep my bass all the way down to get clean bass out of it.

I'm going to divert the speaker wire from the factory sub/kicker 8" to a stand alone speaker box in the rear of the bronco.

Anyone have a suggestion of a speaker you would use for this amp. its already mounted behind the panels and i dont see a reason to change all that up... its clean and hidden as is.

10", 12" etc. ?

I have a 10", 12" and 15" box along with a variety of subs laying around i can use but curious what others feel would be the BEST match for that amp.

thanks everyone.. just an old guy who still likes his bass :)

what box are you using with the 8"? Did you place this in some factory enclosure or is it in a custom/prefab box of some type?
factory enclosure. i get that a better box would help but i'm still stuck with an amp that is wayyyy more then that little 8" needs even with the proper box. which gets me to .. if i'm going to go with a box that takes up space.. i might as well use a speaker that can put out more then that 8" will.

If you are going to use an 8" it has to be in the perfect box and optimally positioned. It is easier to get results out of a 10" or 12", but those too need the specified box. Use an entry level 12 in the 500 RMS range and you should be good. What 12s do you have?

I have a 10" skar, 15" skar (currently in my vette), 12" memphis, 10" memphis, a few 18" subs and various off brand of all of the above.

I'm leaning towards using the 12" memphis as its a lower rms vs the skars
Do you prefer to keep a sub in the stock location? There are some 8" subs that can be pretty loud. Not like a 10 or 12, but still pretty good. What year is your Bronco?

I wanted to keep it all hidden and save space but after doing this mod.. i'm thinking i might as well go with a better set up.

My bronco is a 2024, just got it a few months ago.. love it !!

I mention this as it sounds like some of the issues you are having may be because the sub doesnt like the factory enclosure. If I remember correctly, kickers like a larger ported enclosure across most of their lines. If you are using the factory enclosure, might have to match a driver to the enclosure. I think I read online the factory box ends up being close to 0.87 cube and can fit an 8". So you might have to find an 8" sub that like a little less that .08 for displacement and sealed box.

makes sense  on the bronco forum i have a guy telling me i need to look into forscan (ford tuning) to adjust the levels/frequencies etc. for the sub.

Maybe i'll do both lol now to find a sub that would match the box better.. any suggestions?
