Ok guys, push me over the edge...
Been dragging my feet long enough & now Groundshaker has a sale....
24 tacoma 4 door..
I listen to all types of music but we build systems to sound impressive when it comes to hip hop, rap, etc...
This will be a sound quality system & will be running a dsp, not looking to shake the doors off the truck or people hearing me come from blocks away..
I recently heard the GS box with a 10tw3, wast very impressed but I question if the gain was turned down cuz mids & tweeters didnt have an amp source yet as controllers arent available.
So between the groundshaker box option for under my rear seat would most go for the sound quality of a 10tw3, or go all in & get the 12tw3 box option.
The box has plenty of airspace for the 12, .95 cf...

Another theory is if the 10 isnt enough im in a pickle vs we can always lower the gain on the 12...

Push me over the edge with some reasoning, influence, etc, want to get this done...
Just worried the 12 might bring on all sorts of interior rattles as the entire interior of the truck is plastic.
Plan on sound deadening the doors & lay some on the backside of door panels also most likely.
Thanks!!!

link to the box:

I'd go 12". The enclosure is ~1cuft, which is a good airspace for a 12" sub. That enclosure is 6.5" deep, I'd look at more traditional subs which will cost less. The Image Dynamics ID, Alpine Type S and Dayton Reference subs come to mind.

I vote 12tw3. Since you are aiming for SQ it tells me your music tatse is all over the map. From my own experience I find some awesome songs sorely lacking in the bass region. A 12 with the larger cone area helps bring out what little there is and brings even more depth to the music. Then there are times when you just want to boom it up and the 12 will get you there easier.

Thanks for responding, Jimi, why do you suggest a traditional versus the TW three which they claim is an amazing sounding sub?
I am clueless when it comes to this stuff these days, I’m 52 and last time I built a system in my teens/20’s…
I have listened to a 10 inch JLTW3 stealth box in a Chevy Colorado, wasn’t impressed with that either.
Along with Toyota that I listen to the other day, 10 inch TW3 in the ground shaker box, but I have no idea what the game setting was set at on the sub, as his upgraded mids and tweets don’t have an amp to them yet, so the installer may have clocked back the game to keep things balanced.
Toyota Tacoma is nothing large when it comes to interior cab space but I want the system to sound impressive when the time comes, not just average.

So why do you say a traditional sub over the shallow mount jl TW3?

But yes, now ground shaker has two options for their Tacoma enclosure. I can get a box designed for a TW three or a traditional diameter opening.

I say a traditional suv over the 12tw3 because the 12tw3 is a ~$500 sub but you can get a traditional sub with similar performance for ~$200-250.

But we do all agree that the single 10" isnt going to provide anything that the single 12" wont???
Meaning, no one is going to say a 10" will sound better than the 12"?

I made a decision & pulled the trigger on the 12tw3 enclosure...
Have a local guy willing to sell a 12tw3 at $399 cash price...
just annihilated my back getting all my amazon basic sound deadener installed on all 4 door...
No idea if im going to do the rear cab wall, alot of work...

Now we wait for someone to produce a controller for the 24's...

I did pull the trigger, but this was another option that is supposed to be on the market in the next month. I’m in no hurry…
Taco Tunes is supposed to manufacture this box, I know they have somebody else manufacturing their speakers and I believe it will be image dynamics..
12 inch ported, box shown is a 10 inch ported.
Couple of the shops are arguing that the brown shaker box made of wood would sound better than blown plastic or fiberglass, whatever the hell they got going on.
I have no idea…
I know a lot of it is preference to want to give up under seat storage or behind the seat, I am either or but more I think about it under seed storage is more useful than behind the seat…
Number one is sound quality, though, we don’t know much about this box..
