Image dynamics id 8

Thought about these but didn’t want to spend that much. Guess I should have state my budget. ~100 per sub is what I’m looking for. So around $500 total

Like others have mentioned, the ID 8 is going to be lacking a little on the low end if you go sealed. Ported, the ID-8 can be tuned really low, which will keep your response flatter than the typical ported set up. However, tuning low = longer ports and bigger enclosures. You could go with a Earthquake SLAPs passive radiator instead of a port to save space. The Cerwin Vega Vega series subs are decent at ~$100 and will give you more low end in a sealed enclosure.

Those Vegas have a decently low fs with decent xmax as well. What’s the rule of thumb when it comes to passive radiators? Four of those Vegas look to be an option.

I’m screwing around with radiators now. I have my little 8 inch in a radiator box using 2 10 inch radiators tuned to 28 HZ. A more traditional way of doing this is to use a single 12 inch radiator. This 8 Im using has a ton of xmax, but most 8s could get away with using a single 10 inch radiator. 4 8 inch subwoofers and 2 12 inch radiators would be a cool setup. Air space and weighting for radiator setups can be done a couple of different ways. A sealed box air space size with a really low tuned radiator (25 HZ or so), or a ported box air space size with radiators tuned at a more traditional 30-40 HZ box tuning. What I really like is being able to tune a small box to a super low tuning without the giant port or any port noise. I’m ordering dual 12 inch radiators for my single 15 to play with next.

6.5s are also pretty damn good nowadays. I put RDS audio 6.5s in .9 cubes tuned to 36 HZ and they fvcking rocked. They needed a sub sonic filter at 28-30 HZ, but that wont matter if you aren’t running low frequency burps anyway. I built 2 boxes at the same time so I have an extra box to play with another set of 6.5s. Metal and rock guys still think little subs hit “tighter” for some reason, but what really surprises people is that they play low too. The massive audio 6.5 isn’t too bad for a cheap subwoofer. I might try those in this box and see how they do.

Wow, those are some creative sub grills!

I see you used earthquake radiators, and particular reason you went with that brand? I see Dayton as well as others make radiators as well.

you could do an enhanced sealed box using 2 12 inch radiators and 4 8 inch subs. The box is built to sealed box specs and the radiators would tune the box to 25 HZ. The biggest challenge is fitting it all in a small box during designing.

Absolutely. I have an IDMAX 12 in a 1.65 cubic sealed box on 900 watts and it sounds great. You won’t be disappointed. Pull the trigger.

Can't go wrong with either sub, but the Brahmas seem to have a little more "oomph" down low. Obviously both subs do fine down low, but the...
