I have a 1978 Porsche 911 as my fun car. In the front doors are Polk Audio DB652 shallow mount 6.5 coax. I'm driving them with the front channels of a JBL Stadium 4 amplifier which provides 100 watts RMS at 4 ohms. The Polk's handle 100 watts RMS and they are 4 ohm.
For bass duty I'm using a JL Audio 10tw1-4 loaded enclosure (JL CP110LG-TW1-4) being ran off of the rear channels of the JBL Stadium 4 which provides 240 Watts RMS bridged at 4 ohms. I'm using this enclosure due to being able to easily remove it for extra space when needed for road trips. The bass output is adequate for my needs.
I would like to remove the Polk DB652's and replace them with an upgraded shallow mount coax. I have about 1 3/4 mounting depth available. If the speaker is any deeper, the window will hit the speaker when its being lowered.
I have the ability to add 1/2 inch spacers to allow for a slightly deeper coax but would prefer not to. The speakers will also need to include grills as the speakers mount to the doors instead of behind the door panel. I do not want to modify/cut the doors.
Why do I want an upgrade? The interior of the car is LOUD while driving. The exhaust has been upgraded with stainless headers and sport muffler. Don't get me wrong, I love the sound of the Flat 6 engine but sometimes, I want to crank the audio while driving "spiritedly".
I would like to allocate around $200.00 to the front door speakers. I can use the JBL Stadium 4 in bridged mode to provide 240 watts RMS to each speaker if needed and then use another JBL amp I have available to drive bass (JBL Stadium 600). If $200.00 isn't feasible for the door speakers, I can adjust funds accordingly.
Loudness over sound quality "may" be the best route to go in my scenario so, what do you folks suggest?
