Buck Box Designs - Refreshed Thread

This box wound up having port noise, which is weird, because it's at Skar's recommendation basically, and the port area is the same as other boxes I've done for this exact same sub. The owner and I both new what we were sort of testing or doing here might have been a stretch. He does have a SIA-3500 on this sub. He did a great job building it:

So, since he's running so much power, and the way we have to do this is sort of limited, we're gonna try a "keep it simple" type box, and see if something like a big, regular slot can make this woofer handle all of that power better.

I do have to say, the Skar VXF seems to actually be a really good woofer. I'm very hesitant to say that, but I gotta call it like I see it. I would personally run the VXF in a heartbeat.

Limited testing today proved head and shoulders above my old box.
I'll post more tomorrow after more listening and new spl numbers 🎛
That box is also gorgeous as well. The max dimensions built all the way back just makes sense to me as you get more SD and coil while not loading onto a loose interior panel like a port back design. That type of power turns interior panels into rag dolls but a big metal roof can take it, panel flex= energy and db loss.
Bloody fine box sir, well done.

Yeah the next step would be trying to contain the flex. I just need to figure how to keep it looking halfway decent at the same time.

Old box
20 hz 137.5. New 142.4
25 hz 145.9. New 150.1
30 hz 148.8. New 150.3
35 hz 148.1. New 148.8
40 hz 150.1. New 149.9
45 hz 150.5. New 150.2

Spl meter hasn't moved and the only thing I changed was the box.
I didn't lose hardly any in the higher ranges but gained around 5 decibels where I wanted it most. It now makes something near my sunroof "clap" when it's shut at 25 hz or so.
All of these numbers are sealed and I haven't tried the new one with doors open.
Also have to try moving the meter around.
