New build is having an issue and I can't seem to troubleshoot it

I ordered a kenwood last night with 4v preamp outs. I'm hoping and praying that is it because my little upgrade tripled in cost lol

Sometimes that's just how it goes with audio. I hope it works out for you. If you still have issues I would check on your RCA's hooked up to the radio. Sometimes they can be damaged and still partially working.

If you're upgrading overall quality with anything you buy or do, eventually you'll get there. There's so many things that can go wrong inside of a car that you can't see or know immediately about, just gotta keep working at it.

Well I know this thread is a couple weeks old but I have an update if you are curious. I did a bunch of troubleshooting over this past weekend and found that the amp I was sent is defective. I hooked up my old lanzar 2 channel at 4 ohms to the sub and it is REALLY loud. Then tried hooking the new skar up with the 4 ohm load and no 0-4ga reducer and it barely moved or made any noise. I am working with skar on a replacement/fix or return and get a better quality brand amplifier instead. Appreciate the help form you and the other guys in this thread.

Build is Skar 1200.1 wired to 1 ohm
12" DC Level 3
1st wired 1 ohm.. or was it?
then...

Am I way off base here or what? An old 2ch bridged 4 ohm should be generally loaded to make the most power available for that amp while a Rp 1200.1 @ 4 ohm should not be. Anyone else agree?

So much back and forth has happened in this thread I'm a little lost but when I saw the last post I did recall it was supposedly wired 1 ohm to begin with... or was it?

I have tried wiring the sub 1 and 4 ohm to the new amp, neither worked right. Then I kept it wired in 4ohm and hooked up to the old 2 chan and it was shaking my mirrors.

I reread the thread, you checked final load sounds like. If it was reading around 1 ohm final load... I digress.
Hopefully you found the problem.

Yea I have a DMM and when the sub was wired to 1 ohm it read about .8 ohms, now with it wired to 4 ohm the dmm reads about 3.6ish. On the old amp it really moves and sounds like I expected it to so Ill keep that in and wait for the new amp.

Well... got the replacement amp. I am having the same issues as before. Up until today when it came in the mail, I had the 2 chan lanzar in and it was awesome. No issues and very loud. Today, I hooked up the replacement amp and barely any output at all. I tried all kinds of eq and crossover settings and it never sounded right. Amp turned on fine and I know at least a tiny bit of power was getting to the sub because you could feel it moving but wouldn't be able to see it move. I am honestly stumped. I feel like something about the amp or combo of amp and sub it just doesnt like. I put the dmm in the speaker outs on the amp and tried setting the gain with a 40hz tone and it would barely get about 1.0. I don't know if I have something messed up or I messed up going with a Skar amp. I am guessing the former.

Any help please 🙃

This is a long shot but worth a try. Use different RCA cables. When you connected phone to the amp, it sounded better. I assume the new cable had alot to do with it. A while back I topically read about balanced and unbalanced amplifiers and RCA cables that must be matched.... or else. That is as far as I got. So the Skar amp may be of the balanced persuasion whereas the Lanzar is not. So if you have unbalanced RCA cables, they may play nice with the Lanzar, hence the good output. Or vice versa, all is an assumption.

Hmm, this is interesting. I have never heard of this. It seems like you may have saw earlier in this thread but I did use to have some old RCAs and I upgraded to a new set from knukonceptz but it sadly didnt help. What makes rcas unbalanced? Is there something specific in the description I should be looking for if I order a different pair?

Try removing just one of the RCAs on the amplifier. Try Left and Try Right to see if you get a better Signal . Make sure when removing either to try that the one removed does not ground out/touch metal. Report back if you will. Id like to hear if you have the same issue I had at one time.
