Very low tuned ported box

My beginner sub (10in I found on Craigslist) has dry rotted and ripped and I need a new sub.

I'm looking at a Skar Audio SVR-10 for a compact enclosure around 2cuft. I like the sound of sealed boxes and im not a fan of boomy bass.

Anyways when I modeled the driver in a ported enclosure of the same size tuned to 18hz, I got the same response of a sealed enclosure but louder and then a steep roll off below 20hz. Is this realistic?

Will a ported boxed tuned super low sound like a sealed box but louder?

Steer clear of Skar. American Bass or Sundown is a better option.

Preferably less than $150. I want a sub for sq and to bring out the bass in my daily music. I listen to folk, pop, rock, jazz, kinda everything

One of these should work for you. I don't know which amp you are using. Buy a DVC2 if your amp is one ohm stable.

Skar likes to lie about their TS specs. Be aware.

Thanks but back to the original question. Will a sub in a very low tuned enclosure sound like a sealed box but louder?
In theory yes, in reality a multitude of variables will effect that. Driver orientation in your vehicle, port loading, and port placement - to name a few. It's worth trying though.

Once you start getting under 28 hz or so, the port will become very large, making the box very large also. I’m not really discouraging you, because I have done this, and have yielded good acoustical results. If you’re going for practical, 2 sealed 10s would be in a much smaller box at this point and yield nice results. The negative side of that is you now need double the amplifier power.

My guess is you'll run out of useful xmax before you get close to the theoretical FR curve. I could be wrong, I didn't model it, but that's what I've seen with my models. Make sure you've entered your amp's power in the model, and look at your cone movement plot.

I love the low tuned box (here was a 3.5 cuft tuned to 23hz for a 15” Brahma). Way louder than in a sealed box. But...it took up my entire trunk. I only had enough space over the wheel well hump to squeeze an amp for it. If space isn’t an issue, go for it!

It's always leaned that direction. Not sure how cheap you can really get anything done these days. Deadening and custom mounting...

Did you try the red on both sides, then the white on both sides. It may be a bad cable.
