I've been running a pair of (400w rms) kicker comp vr 12's on my rp2k. I have been looking to upgrade subs ever since, in order to use its available power. I'm about to order a pair of American bass xr 12d4's that are rated around 1000rms. Are the upgraded subs really gonna boost my spl noticeably? Won't most of the now used power be lost in the motor and suspension? These are the things that go through my mind. Thanks for the feedback!

Is your current enclosure for the kickers sealed or ported, prefab or custom, what’s your electrical. So may factors besides simple sub upgrade. 2 12” xr’s are going to be less than beating the block on that 2k unless your electrical can support it. Also box rise is a mofo. Consider on xr in a 2.5 cubes+ ported enclosure on that one amp

05 avalon. Built the box for 4.4cubes tuned to 32hz. I haven't installed the port yet so actually running it 5cubes sealed for now. 0gauge from upgraded battery to amp in trunk. Voltage stays decent around 13.3.

Those subs needs some power to get the most out of them, and to keep from clipping. Properly box built and tuned is going to make or break these subs to perform with the power you are providing, electrical supply for the demand as well.Thats why I recommended the SQubed subs on this type of power and enclosure measurements provided in the other thread you ran.

Youll hit deeper louder but it wont be a huge jump. It'll be a .. wtf? Thats it? For all that money i just spent? When it comes to car audio, when you upgrade... UPGRADE. Dont fk around with these half ass "step ups" be satisfied for now, when you have the funds jump to 3 or 4 inch coil subs on 5 to 8k with alt and batts. It takes awhile but you'll save money in the long run by eliminating all the filler upgrades in between. Go zero to 💯

Ported enclosure is better for output than sealed in a car trunk environment. Did you design your enclosure to be ported? If so you should finish the enclosure
You are absolutely correct. I have to make time to finish the box and big 3. I hate seeing systems thrown together, so I've been waiting until I have time to do things correctly.

Additinally, no need to reference "max" anything as those specs are useless. Most of know how to look at specs for a given speaker, amp, HU, etc...

That’s the little single 6.5 inch enclosure. The Savard did just as well as the RDS. These subs do well in ported or 6th orders but not as well...
