Boss deck has power but won't turn on.

I have a 2004 Ford Ranger and i am upgrading my factory deck but have hit a few problems. yes i did push the on/off button and yes it is connected to the wire connecting it to the battery but for some reason it still wont turn on. I know it has power because the power light is red but no matter what i do nothing works. i have tried grounding the parking break wire but that didnt do anything either. my current wiring connections are (from the new deck to old leads) Red to main power wire, Yellow to illumination (interior lights) wire, and ground to Black ground wire. Other than the parking break these are the only wires i can think of that would be the problem. please help!

You wired directly to the cars harness? Or did you use a proper wiring harness? Secondly its a Boss. Its a piece of shit.

i did not buy a harness, i simply cut the wires from the back of the old one and attached them to the wires leading to a new harness on the deck.

Thats your issue. You need your vehicle specific wiring harness.

if the wires form my truck are going to the correct wires on the deck shouldn't that work? i will go get a wiring harness but i dont see how it will fix the issue.

it won't, now that you've cut the factory harness

I downloaded the wire diagram off the internet for my truck and labled all of the wires that went to my factory deck.

Sounds like he did it the hard way, but it should still work. All those harnesses do is make it easier to connect the right wires together. There's no problem if you know exactly which wire does what, and connect them that way....

Also, orange is usually the illumination wire. yellow is normally the constant 12v source. But maybe your head unit is different.

Battery WHITE/YELLOW (+) RADIO HARNESS yellow wire from your radio goes here

Accesory WHITE/RED (+) RADIO HARNESS red wire from radio goes here

Ground BLACK (-) RADIO HARNESS ground wire/black wire goes here

Illumination RED/BLACK (+) RADIO HARNESS

Dimmer RED (-) RADIO HARNESS

Amp Turn On YELLOW/WHITE (+) RADIO HARNESS

you wired the constant power ( yellow ) to the illumination? nope try again scooby...

the yellow deck wire has to have +12 volts constant...
