Hello everybody. I actually just got my Pioneer AVIC-Z1 installed and the unit is great but I'm not liking the job the installer did on the dash kit. I would like to get everything flush and even. Could you guys please help me out in this and how I would go about doing this? Anyway help me out with some instructions please. I drilled some holes in the brackets to move the unit further back and now I am waiting for the new kit to arrive. Any suggestions on how I can make alterations to it to fit the navi? Here are pics of how it looks currently:

Oh and the vehicle is a 2001 Nissan Maxima and the kit is the Scosche kit.

I would like to get it to look like this:

The guy used the same kit but different navi. But I adjusted the mounting holes so now I will just need to get the kit to fit the navi and my dash.

Here is the pic of the dash kit.

P.S. Please let be on topic here. I made this thread because people ruined the other one. Let have this only be about techniques for make everything flush and nice. Thanks.

isnt there a double kit for that dash? and if so all you would need is some liquid plastic from hzemall.com, some sandpaper, painters tape, and SEM paint

and some time //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

if no double din kit, you will need a dremel witha carbide tip to doctor tha single dash kit your posted

just mold it in yourself //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif i did that with a 7" lcd and a 1/2 din dvd player in my dash...looks great..but that install doesn't look to nice in those pics...cuts look kinda jagged and what not :-\

Hey, I know JoO //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Yes theres a double din kit for the car, the mostly preferred "GXE" kit which is a higher priced OEM product.

I dont like the gxe because it doesnt fit right. And I dont have a gxe but an SE model but I dont know if that matter.

K got the white carbide tip. IS there a special way to use the dremel? Is it better at slower or faster speeds? Also does it matter what direction I move it in (like the way it is spinning) or is it okay to move back and forth?

Don I Would still have to drill new holes even for the gxe kit though right?

How would I mold something? Seems like it would fit perfect, but how difficult is it to do?

How doesnt the GXE kit fit right??? Its made by Nissan for YOUR car. GXE,SE,GLE it doesnt matter. Its an OEM part.

Whether you would need to drill new holes or not is irrelevant and I dont know the answer becuase I havent put in a Z1 with that kit yet. Either way, its an OEM piece and rest assured it would fit right.

I dont like the way there are gaps in the gxe unit. The Schosche fitment is better and Nilesh even said so. But just form the pics I like the look of the scosche better than the gxe kit.

That is the GXE kit. The gap is filled in with a nice piece of ABS plastic.

You're worried about it sticking out? You already drilled new holes and lined it up to your own preference.

Get the **** kit, buy some ABS plastic, cut it, cement it behind the kit, and be done with it. Fits/looks/performs better than Scosche.

Hell, if you're worried that the gap is too high at the top, then center it and put two strips of ABS plastic, one at the top, one at the bottom.

I dont know how to do all that. And Im not certain the holes I made will work with the gxe. And the whole point is that I dont want a peace of abs plastic to be there it looks out of place. The pic in the link above of that unit with the scoscher looks much better. And it is also much cheaper.

BTW

This was your original post:

I dont know how to do all that. And Im not certain the holes I made will work with the gxe. And the whole point is that I dont want a peace of abs plastic to be there. I think the fit and looks are fine in the above link.

I know the fit and looks are fine, it's the GXE kit. The whole point is you want to make a cheap kit look like a good kit.

You don't know how to dremel or drill holes in brackets either, but here you are doing that. The holes you made push the unit back, am I not correct? That was the problem you had with the GXE, the unit was too far out, such as in this pic:

http://www.eden.rutgers.edu/~nbalani/Maxima/CIMG1013.JPG

So you fixed the flush problem.

Use the previous link, fix the gap, and presto you're done.

Now according to your modified post, you like the Scosche for whatever reasons (cheap) knock yourself out. I don't know what colors you're seeing on the Scosche, but its color doesn't match nearly as well as the OEM product.

I mean by the link in the boave being my first post, not the gxe. I do not like how the ABS plastic looks I want it to be more of a one peice like the pic of the scoche I posted in the first post of thid thread which is a scosche kit. It doesnt create any gap and I believe looks better then the gxe kit and the abs plastic. Ther pserson whose pic I posted in the link had the gxe kit with the abs plastic and did not like it and changed to the scosche for the same reason I am trying to tell you.

And I drilled the holes but it doesnt mean that it will be good once the new kit arrives. What if I need to move it forard or back, or tilt it up. Im gonan be screwed.

Plus I didnt put everything back together yet lol. I hope everything will still work.
