And the government expects you to just blow it on goods.. to "stimulate" the economy... it's really kind of a scary idea..

thats why i said it....i'm just pulling your chain man...i am one of the people who realize the check is not a good thing....but since they won't just let me give it back, i'll put it to good use. And i like i stated earlier, i'll just up my 401k contribution for the year to lower my tax liability to cover the check

AHh ok.. too many people actually believe that living in Canada is any diferrent than living in the states... i've lived in both it's pretty much the exact same..

Just buy a bunch of giftcards as presents for your fellow coworkers....then use them yourself....that's what I do....nice little tax write off there ($50 per fellow employee)

Only problem with that is that the money used to buy those gift cards is post-tax take off pay....my 401k is pre-tax and earns money for me....but yes the gift cards are one way to recoup some tax dollars
