X series vs the zv4 series

Don't forget about electrical upgrades. 8k is a lot of power, especially if you're running Korean amps. Alt and batteries will be a lot of money.
Running scv-4000s strapped. Already have dual 270 amp alts under the hood. And two batteries. Working on getting more.

I mean would 8 12inch subs out preform two high powered 18 inch subs? Or 4 15inch subs? All on the 8k. Don't factor in rise. Just in theory. Isn't there a +3db gain per speaker

Didn't see that you had that good of an electrical, well done.

In my opinion, the less subs the better. I believe more drivers have a greater impedance rise than a single sub (don't quote me on that tho)

If I had the cash and space, I'd get some really bad a$$ 18's

More coils equals more rise. More subs equals more motor force depending on subs used but also has a greater risk of phase and cancelation issues. Btw double cone area equals 3db on paper. Hardly ever works in the real world. In this case I would do 4 15s. You will have better thermal than 2 18s, more motor force and more cone area. 8 12s will be a tuning nightmare if you don't want to build many boxes to get it right. Either way it will be loud.

8 12's can work just fine "if" you can build the proper enclosure in the space you have. 4 15's is also a very good option.

X seems to be the low end monster from Sundown. I built a 4 15's 4th order with X subs off a single NS1 that did a 156 in the kick at 31Hz....he plays it down to 22Hz with no issues...
